Title- How does energy consumption affect the landscape? I had already completed the BP oil spill and traditional coal extraction when we completed this lesson. It begins with a GP activity to improve a previous exam Q and builds the Virginia case study through a short clip that I show twice and ends with a contrasting 6 marker. In Fudge-A-Mania by Judy Blume, Peter Hatcher’s family will be driving from Manhattan, NY to Southwest Harbor, ME for their summer vacation. On the map, your students will write ‘Manhattan’ next to the star on the map in New York to show where Peter lives, then write ‘Southwest Harbor’ next to the star on the map in Maine to show where the family will be vacationing. Then they will draw a line from Manhattan to Southwest Harbor to show the journey they will travel. On page 2, your students will use the map and compass to answer three questions: What three states will the Hatchers have to drive through to get to Maine? In what direction will the Hatchers have to drive to get from New York to Maine? Southwest Harbor is on the coast of what ocean? This geography/reading comprehension activity can be done after reading chapters 1-2 of Fudge-A-Mania. This includes two printable handouts. This resource could be used as part of an Environmental Issues SoW. The aims are to reduce the amount of plastic used in your school through the class creating persuasive adverts encouraging their peers to buy reusable bottles. Each lesson uses a variety of learning techniques based on enquiry and all video links are in the notes section of each slide. I will then display the students work around the school and see if it has any impact! Water consumption is incredibly important for concentration and should be encouraged within the school environment. World Music

This is a 6 week topic aimed at KS1 and KS2 to teach them about different music traditions from around the world. Throughout this topic, pupils will be given the opportunity to explore music from different countries and cultures around the globe, including: West Africa, Australia, Poland, Ireland, Jamaica and Native America. Each week will focus on a different country. The focus of each lesson will be to learn where the country is on the map, listen to an example of traditional music from that that country and learn a song/game/dance that is culturally relevant. Pupils will be given the opportunity to develop their listening and singing skills (Links to curriculum can be found at the bottom). By the end of the topic pupils should have a better understanding of different styles and genres of music and where they came from as well as developing their understanding of the role of music in different cultures and societies. Perfect for linking to Geogrpahy and History! Here is my greatly loved and appreciated country of the month display. Each month I focus on one country around the world. The countries included are: Mexico, Peru, Mongolia, Italy, Iceland, Portugal, Nepal, Uganda, Qatar, Russia, Japan, South Korea. For each country there is the name of the country, 5 facts about the country and the country’s flag. This is displayed around my world map. I often get pupils asking what country is next, or wondering where the country is and encouraging them to use an atlas to locate it they frequently comment or ask about the facts displayed.
