Irregular Adjective Endings (French)

Irregular Adjective Endings (French)

Adjectives change their endings in French to match the noun depending on whether they are masculine or feminine, and whether they are singular or plural. The rule is simple (add an ‘e’ to the masculine form if they accompany a feminine noun, and an ‘s’ if they accompany a plural noun - add both if both apply). However there are exceptions; this worksheet is to test those exceptions.

French film adjectives match-up

French film adjectives match-up

Yes, this is an activity which requires some cutting out. The good news is that you only need to do it once because the cards can be stored for future years or for spontaneous progress checks throughout the year. Numbered cards contain a French or English word in each, so each French word has a matching translation. To make life easier, when checking the matches, each card has a number so you can display 2 columns on the board, one for French and one for English, and show the number combinations that make the match. You might prefer, instead, to get students to suggest the match and then to ask students, as they give their answers, to use the French word in a sentence. If they are correct, they can a bonus point for their extra correct answer. I laminate my match-up card sets because, well, students are students. This is great for starters, plenaries and for progress checks during the year. Often, if students are struggling to justify their opinions, I’ll drop one of these envelopes on their desk so they can find an adjective they like. If you do that, you might also want them to translate their sentence so that you know they’re not just picking a French adjective without knowing its meaning. This is nothing fancy, just bread and butter stuff that makes life a bit easier.

Studio Module 4 My home town reading task

Studio Module 4 My home town reading task

This reading task is largely based on Studio Module 4, Ma Zone, with some additional vocabulary included. It can easily be adapted as a comparison with your own hometown if you wish by modifying the sentences about my hometown, Richmond. There is some comparative language as the focus is on comparing the two towns and contrasting features. Students use their language and cultural knowledge to establish meaning from the text and respond to comprehension questions . It provides great differentiation if you have students who need extending and challenging, as well as lots of simpler content to ensure everyone can achieve. If you require a different file format let me know. Merci!

Un groupe de musiciens. Year 7. Developing reading and translation skills.

I have designed this to support my year 7 in developing reading/ writing / translating skills. I started with the text ( pair work competition : each pupil has a different colour pen, the first to circle the translation in French in the text wins the point and it is quite visual at the end who is fastest . Great fro competition The other activities involve finding translations, matching up for lower ability and extending sentences from the given text. The last slide on the Power Point contains a writing list of bullet points ( goes with Studio 1 ’ il est hypercool’ but can be adapted for other courses. I owe Rachel Hawkes a big thank you for inspiring the Power Point slides offering differentiation when sentence building on mini whiteboards. I hope it is useful.
