GCSE Computer Science 9-1 NEA No longer counts - it's all the exams now!

GCSE Computer Science 9-1 NEA No longer counts - it's all the exams now!

In response to added emphasis on the Component 1 & Component 2 exams, following the NEA decision, I have re-structured my approach in lessons running up to the exams. Attached are two structured lessons which target specific 'question' styles at the beginning of the lessons, with revision of theory (based on OCR guidance - separate powerpoint theory on OCR website) before attempting a) for component 1, a QWC extended question or b) for component b, a writing algorithm questions. Over the coming weeks, as I develop the lessons to focus on areas of weakness shown in mock exams, I will upload further lessons in the hopes they can prepare your students for assessment as well.

Data representation and impact of number of bits used

Data representation and impact of number of bits used

Used as a recap in preparation for OCR GCSE 9-1: J276/02 - 2.6 Data Representation section. Covers how the number of bits used changes the range of numbers that can be represented and leads on to looking at the other types of data covered in the spec. Reminds students that #bits relates to #colours available for each pixel etc. Rather than the common "improves quality". Images, sound, numbers, characters. Editable activity sheet.

Data Representation - starter / plenary activity

Data Representation - starter / plenary activity

KS3 / GCSE Computer Science "Spot the mistakes" task for the topic Data Representation. Students must read a short piece of text and identify the mistakes. Handy to check understanding as a starter or plenary. Covers binary, hexadecimal, and text, image, and sound representation. One PowerPoint contains the three questions, each with the plain text, a slide highlighting the mistakes, and a slide showing the correct answers. This is useful for displaying on a projector. The second PowerPoint includes just the questions and is useful for students working independently with the resource on a VLE. Fully editable resource.
