The cards are about the Romans, the Chinese, and general information about the Silk Road (routes, countries…). Pupils can classify the cards to learn about the Silk Road, play with them (memory or other games). This activity has been prepared by a French teacher to study the subject in English with Year 6) 6e pupils. Thanks for being tolerant with the different propositions of how to play with the cards. Introductory Economics Excercise

Resource was created to introduce lower secondary students to the economy. The activity involves giving each student a card with a unique “economic situation” on it. Students must read through their situation and determine whether they are part of a weak and struggling economy, or whether they are part of a strong and thriving economy. In my classroom we had a divided section on the whiteboard and students had to sort themselves into either one of the catergories. They then had to explain their reasoning and we had a discussion afterwards. This was used in a Year 8 Geography class but can be used throughout a variety of subjects. Would be best used as an introductory excercise.

Is recycling plastics really that effective? In this lesson, students will explore how we use plastics in everyday packaging and how these might be redesigned in such a way as to not become a ‘waste’ problem. Moving beyond methods to ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ at end of life, students will explore ways of designing waste out of the system from the outset. This lesson is an introduction to economic geography that uses the Wimbledon Championships as a case study. Students get to consider the costs and benefits of running the tournament and draw up a simple balance sheet. The lesson covers different types of work (seasonal, temporary, paid, voluntary etc.) and gets students thinking about who the producers and consumers of the services are at the tournament. There is a role play exercise in which two people argue about the cost of going to the tournament and some longer essay questions to extend more able learners and provide homework opportunties.

The World News Crossword - June 3rd, 2018 This resource pack will help your students review some of last week’s news stories. If you have students work in small groups they’ll get excited about being the first to finish, but more importantly, they’ll discuss the news stories and ask why these events happened. They will also learn that their smartphone can be used for something other than Facebook. In last week’s news… Prince William announced he will visit Israel, Palestine and Jordan in the summer. Israeli tanks shelled the Gaza Strip. And a volunteer paramedic was shot and killed as she ran (with her hands in the air) to help a wounded protester. The EU announced a plan to reduce the amount of plastic food and drink containers in use. In Thailand, a whale died after consuming more than 80 plastic bags. Rare, tropical Australian fish were found around New Zealand after an unusually hot summer warmed the Tasman Sea. Residents in Shimla, in India, asked tourists to stay away because of water shortages being caused by a heatwave in Punjab, which also caused more than 60 deaths in Pakistani Punjab. Just a little further north, a 21 year old Kashmiri was killed when he was run down by an Indian army vehicle. Further south in India, 14 people died because of the Nipah virus. 8 more cases of Ebola virus were reported in Democratic Republic of Congo, in Africa. Immigrants from Africa have found an easier and cheaper route to Europe - from Morocco to Spain. A Malian immigrant rescued a small child who was hanging dangerously from an apartment balcony in Paris. More than a million French smokers quit cigarettes last year. And so we’ve included a bonus crossword about France in this week’s resource pack. As well as The World News Crossword, there are 2 Search & Cloze puzzles that will give a little more information about stories that have persisted for several weeks or months.
