Night Time Presentation and Visual Story Prompts, Fun Story and 31 Activities

Night Time Presentation and Visual Story Prompts, Fun Story and 31 Activities

I have collected together my night time resources to make a lovely lesson starting with a night time story, followed by things we see in the night and a night time writing prompt. I have also included a teacher guide to show teachers how to use these Photo Flash cards in 31 different teaching activities in the classroom. These activities are easy to arrange, lots of fun and will improve your students' vocabulary and memory skills. You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different locations being shown in each of the images. You could print off and laminate the images to make an interesting, eye-catching set of story prompts. The students could also take five of the laminated images and create them into a story . The images could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.

17 Blank Photocopiable Templates ESL Resource Pack + Example Called "The Dentist"

17 Blank Photocopiable Templates ESL Resource Pack + Example Called "The Dentist"

This pack contains 17 templates for creating your own worksheets, for use in lessons, for testing, or for homework. You can use them with any level – your choice of vocabulary and tenses will determine the level. The example unit would be perfect for anyone interested in the topic of teeth, health or the dentist. • This pack also includes a sample set of finished worksheets (with answers) on the topic of “Dentist”. The level is pre-intermediate to intermediate. • You don’t need to create all the worksheets for a given topic; simply choose the ones you need. The worksheets are in four categories: vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and speaking & listening. Of course, you can also adapt the worksheets and include your own activities and categories. • Remember, as the teacher, you should know the answers to the worksheets! By thinking about the answers and researching what you do not know, your teaching skills will improve. • The worksheets practise concepts and skills that are fundamental to the You Are The Course Book method of teaching, for example: discussion words, spelling statements, tense conversion, idioms, word stress, sentence stress, collocations, connected speech, discussion, and so on. • In keeping with the YATCB method, why not encourage your students to make their own activities based on these worksheets – then swap them with one another, or give them to other classes. • You can write on the blank worksheets then photocopy them for your students, or create your own templates modelled on these worksheets

Long Adjectives: Comparative and Superlative Forms

Long Adjectives: Comparative and Superlative Forms

This new card pack consists of 180 cards. You can use these new cards if you want to revise or teach comparative and superlative forms of the so-called long adjectives. All of the cards are very colourful and they all contain very colourful images to grab your students' attention. The card pack includes four types of cards: The first group consists of 60 cards with multiple-choice sentences. This next type of cards includes 60 cards too. These cards, however, contain sentences with gaps. The next type of cards are cards with pictures. There are 30 of them in the pack. Students' task is to look at the cards, think for a second and compare the objects/people in the pictures. They  should come up with sentences like 'Snowboarding is more popular than golf.', This blue hat is less fashionable than the green shoes.', Hamburgers are as unhealthy as pizza.' or 'Tourist guides have more interesting jobs than gardeners'. The final type of cards are cards containing questions with comparatives and superlatives. These questions are followed by more detailed questions so that your students get to practise both comparative and superlative forms of long adjectives as well as speaking. The pack includes 30 cards of this kind. One more thing, the cards can be also used to practise the expression as...as.

English / Literacy: 'The Playground' Story Structure Writing Activity

English / Literacy: 'The Playground' Story Structure Writing Activity

'The Playground' starts with the opening line: Everything stopped, everything a statue all around me. Frozen in time. This lesson resource gets children to brainstorm and write the rest of the story using their own imagination, using the above opening line and a playground photograph as stimuli. The objective and success criteria are: To write a complete story Success Criteria: * My story has a beginning, middle and end * The events of my story flow and make sense * I can engage the reader using description / feelings / varied sentences The lesson presentation is in Smartboard format with detailed, engaging slides which promote talk partner discussion, teacher modelling, an independent white board task, clear objectives and plenary. It can easily be adapted for different KS2 year groups and a different writing focus other than story structure, e.g. tense, sentence starters, grammar or vocabulary.

Grammar terms posters

Grammar terms posters

I use these posters in a variety of ways but often only displaying a few - not all. For older children, I often use this as a reading activity or grammar recap. I give them a small version A6 version (photocopy shrunk) to stick in their books then they have to either find examples in books or write their own. For younger children, I keep the appropriate terms A4 size and use a group or whole class activity with them drawing and writing further examples. For year 6 I used to give them to partners in a pack and they did oral tests to see if the other person could give examples of the random term selected.
