Fostering Self-management for Upper Primary to Middle School Children from the Home front

Fostering Self-management for Upper Primary to Middle School Children from the Home front

This self-management tool is an excellent check list for students which was originally generated for a Unit of Inquiry on Rights and Responsibilities. It is used weekly/ fortnightly and the student, teachers and parents can track progress. Its a giant step to forming and internalizing efficient work habits and assuming greater responsibility in the home and complementing the school's effort. Rewards are strongly discouraged. Students should aim to improve for "the joy of being better self managed" and developing more independence. Rewards tend to diminish the drive and divert the motive therefore extrinsic motivators are discouraged, however, parents may use their own discretion.

Golden time is an acceptable reward, beyond that there should really be no extrinsic motivators.

Learning To Drive Wordsearch Driving Test Literacy Starter Activity Homework Cover Lesson Plenary

Learning To Drive Wordsearch Driving Test Literacy Starter Activity Homework Cover Lesson Plenary

Wordsearch on the theme of 'Learning To Drive'. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!
