All About Me Back to School Pop Art Box & Task Cards

All About Me Back to School Pop Art Box & Task Cards

This ‘Pop Art Box About Me’ art and getting to know you resource, is a fun, first week back to school ice breaker for both girls and boys. It is a really creative way for teachers and students to learn more about each other. Invite students to create a unique ‘All About Me Box’, following the template prompts using Pop Art style doodles and words. Box prompts include: Age, name, grade, self portrait, favorite colors, favorite fruit, my top goal, I love… Students can then fill their boxes with a selection of question cards and work in pairs or small groups to explore their learning goals, aspirations, likes and dislikes. 36 question cards are included, along with blanks for students to have some fun and invent their own questions and games, for example, ‘Would you rather…’ Another task is to make a ‘card to myself’ with a message or goal, or a kind note for a friend. For example, students can give these to their teacher to open at the end of the year. The coloured, finished example included features a girl’s face. However the actual face template has a ‘generic bald head’ so both boys and girls can create a self portrait from this outline. Classroom Decor includes Pop Art inspired garlands and posters to colour and display. There are doodle pages to keep early finishers occupied. UK/Aus/Can spelling options of favourite and colour are included in the templates. Boxes measure 2.6 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches / 6.6 x 6.6 x 6.6cm when finished. The entire box template is designed to fit one sheet of US Letter or A4 sized paper. A larger box template is also included if you have access to an 11x14 or A3 printer. The finished boxes make a fabulous display, on the bulletin board, pegged up on a line as a garland or suspended from the ceiling with clear thread. Photographs of completed examples are included in the pack.

EAL for Secondary Students: Workbook 3

EAL for Secondary Students: Workbook 3

EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 3) directly addresses the unique academic needs facing students who arrive in the UK with little or no English. After completing EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 3) students should be able to cope in mainstream classes. This workbook ensures that the student will develop an effective understanding of English. The tremendous advantage of this resource is that the student will immediately become fully included in the learning process. At the end of each unit, the student can record the progress they have made by completing the user friendly self-assessment sheet. EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 3) is a student-centred resource which enables the student to be actively engaged in developing skills that are required in an academic environment. The teacher can witness and monitor the steady progress the EAL student is making towards becoming an independent learner. EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 3) allows the teacher the flexibility to select appropriate topics. EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 3) can, also, be used as an excellent Induction programme. When it is necessary and appropriate to withdraw students from mainstream classes, this is a systematic self-contained resource that enhances language development and activates confidence in the student. EAL for Secondary Students Workbook 3 contains over 80 pages of excercises.

MEET ‘N’ GREET MINGLE BINGO (adaptable) Ice Breaker for the New Year/ Genetics Unit/ ESL Speaking

MEET ‘N’ GREET MINGLE BINGO (adaptable) Ice Breaker for the New Year/ Genetics Unit/ ESL Speaking

This ‘Mingle Bingo’ is a great ice- breaker for the start of the year. There are 25 spots on the card, each describing a physical attribute (such as green eyes), a capability (such as being able to lick your elbow!) or something specific about family and home (such as having a dog, or having two sisters). Students embark on a scavenger hunt to find someone in the class who fits that descripton. There are two slightly different Bingo cards (although they do have some of the same points on them) which could be used together with everyone randomly handed on or the other, or choose which you prefer according to what you know about characteristics within your class. The idea is that everyone mingles and asks specific each other questions. When students find someone who “ticks” one of the boxes on their sheet, that person writes their name down in the space provided. Each person can only be used once, so students have to use a little bit of tactical thinking about whose name to place where! For smaller classes adjust the game by giving students a certain number of boxes to fill in, or ask them to complete a row or two. The activity would also be great for use in a module on **Genetics **as many of the Bingo boxes ask about characteristics which are dominant and recessive genes The cards could also be used in an English as Second Language class in an activity about describing people.
