German: Weather, Countries and Holidays: revision activities and games

German: Weather, Countries and Holidays: revision activities and games

This are the activities from a lesson I taught on revising the names of countries, weather phrases and holidays. The powerpoint is a brief revision outline and includes a reminder about the correct use of prepositions as well as a class points game. Students generally love this game: divide the class into two or three teams and each team takes a turn in giving a weather phrase in German. They then clink on the symbol which disappears to reveal the points behind it. This can be differentiated (e.g. double the points if a whole sentence / including the name of a country / different tense is used). Also a match up activity to revise weather phrases - two sets of translations included as I had two students up at the board playing against each other - first to match correctly. The large names of the countries on the next document can be printed onto coloured card or laminated and then students come to the board and use bluetak to stick the name on to the correct country - display the blank outline map which is contained on the powerpoint. Alternatively print the blank map for students to label in German. There is also a word loop which can be used a number of ways. One way is simply to print and cut out for each student / pair / group to put together (like dominoes, cut along each row so each domino has a German and English phrase which don't match). Students will then end up with a circle of 'dominoes' with each German phrase next to the correct English translation. Can also be used as a word loop - give each student a domino and they read out the German. The student who has the English translation has to then read out the English. They then read their German phrase and it continues until back to the beginning. Great for listening and attention skills!

German Musical Chant About Weather - Das Wetter

German Musical Chant About Weather - Das Wetter

German Musical Chant About Weather - Das Wetter. Teach German weather vocabulary with this musical packet from Gesang, Rhythmen und Reime which is a collection of purposeful chants and rhythms set to all types of music. Because this chant is not actually sung, all students, even those who can't carry a tune, can participate. This chant is better described as being musically accompanied rhythmic recitations. I have suggested a few ways to use these chants in the instructions, but there are many other ways not mentioned here. You or your students or may come up with many more ideas as time goes on. One easy way is to use the cloze activities as a musical dictation both before the song is learned (or as it is) then again after. Recite or sing. You may also use pictures for many of these songs. The packet includes instructions, table of contents for the whole series, the script, a cloze script (fill-in-the-blanks) , questions and pictures for flashcards to be used as a review worksheet or as individual flashcards. Speak, Write and Play In German

Speak, Write and Play In German

Are you learning German? Are you looking for a fun way to learn German? I have developed a way to learn different languages based on my experience as an ESL teacher. This pack has 57 different settings for students to talk about in German. The worksheets themselves are in English and the students do need to translate the places and objects they see into German. At the end of the session, the students can play a fun game of word bingo to show they have mastered that day's vocabulary. Try it, it is a lot of fun for everyone! * Please note - these resources provide visual prompts, not specific language instruction. German Bingo pack: This is a simple starter game for students. There are 114 different pictures to choose from. Select a single picture and project the image on the wall or share it with the class as a hand-out. Let's Talk in German!: This set of cards looks at 57 different settings. The teacher describes something in the top card. The students then use this to model a sentence using the bottom set of pictures. There are lots of things to see and describe in every picture. When the students have completed this task, they can repeat it by working in pairs to discuss each picture. Let's Write in German pack: There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning German. The students could write about a topic in German before and then after a topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic.

Plenty of opportunity for team, pair and individual tasks as well as problem solving activities with a quiz to be completed at the start & end of the lesson to gauge their progress é understanding. Can be easily adapted for more able pupils by adding months/seasons into the plenary to see if they can apply their understanding of word order rules elsewhere (or even to different topics eg sports)
