Lesson Plan Template - Visible Learning Inspired

Lesson Plan Template - Visible Learning Inspired

The Visible Learning lesson plan utilises John Hattie’s research to structure your lesson. Simple, effective, organised. The document is well formatted and structured. It explicitly states the goal(s), reasons for learning, and title of the lesson through the ‘We Are Learning To (WALT), This Is Because (TIB), and What I Am Looking For (WILF)’ headings. It fits neatly onto a one page document that can be filled out directly (without expanding the text boxes), or printed and written by hand. The Visual Learning Lesson Plan integrates assessment measures, or ‘Checks For Understanding’ (CFU), into its three activity slots. Some tips for formatively assessing your students are given at the base of the document. Considerations for student instruction are included in the far left column of each activity. The document includes ‘student focus’, ‘teacher focus’, and time frame columns in order to help teachers (especially beginners) organise, prepare and visualise their lessons. A ‘hook/do now’ section allows teachers to engage students and begin the lesson with discussions, activities, or videos in order to capture their attention. The Visible Learning Lesson Plan is designed for classes of roughly forty minutes to one hour, however the time frames can easily be adjusted by adding additional activity boxes. Simply copy and paste.

Growth Mindset Display

Growth Mindset Display

The idea of the display is to encourage students to change their vocabulary. The display is firmly based on the work of Carol Dweck and the idea of fixed and growth mindsets. The display is based on famous individuals who had growth mindsets and using their vocabulary to enhance the learning of the students and to encourage them to put in effort and to try. There is also an opportunity for a mistake and success board as seen in the picture as the central theme of the display, this is where you as a teacher can highlight both successful work and good mistakes. The idea being both really good work and work with lots of mistakes make it to the board, and the students see mistakes and successes as one and the same - There is an image attached to show how this works.

Whole Class Feedback Template

Whole Class Feedback Template

This template allows for quick and insightful feedback to be given to students in line with the Ofsted feedback policy, Whole class feedback allows teachers to give general or specific feedback depending on how the template is used, pick up general misconeptions or grammatical errors buy highlighting multiple students, or give priase to individual students for their succeses. “Ofsted does not expect to see a particular frequency or quantity of work in pupils’ books or folders. Ofsted recognises that the amount of work in books and folders will depend on the subject being studied and the age and ability of the pupils. Ofsted recognises that marking and feedback to pupils, both written and oral, are important aspects of assessment. However, Ofsted does not expect to see any specific frequency, type or volume of marking and feedback; these are for the school to decide through its assessment policy. Marking and feedback should be consistent with that policy, which may cater for different subjects and different age groups of pupils in different ways, in order to be effective and efficient in promoting learning. While inspectors will consider how written and oral feedback is used to promote learning, Ofsted does not expect to see any written record of oral feedback provided to pupils by teachers. If it is necessary for inspectors to identify marking as an area for improvement for a school, they will pay careful attention to the way recommendations are written to ensure that these do not drive unnecessary workload for teachers.”
