The Olympic Games Activity Pack

The Olympic Games Activity Pack

The Olympic Games Activity Pack 1. The Olympic Games Handout 2. The Olympic Winter Games Handout 3. The Olympic Games Word Search 4. Olympic Games Events Word Search 5. The Olympic Rings Meaning Activity 6. Color the Olympic Rings Sheet 7. The Olympic Games in Ancient Greece PP Quiz Learning Objectives: To be able to explain about the Olympic Games in Ancient Greece and its History. This works brilliantly for expanding vocabulary and creative thinking skills. 50 questions within 73 slides excellent pictures and sources to engage and motivate pupils study of the History of the Greeks. Extra notes/info given in the PP notes section. From question 29 to 50 they are focused on 'The Olympics' in the Greek world. 1-29 are more General about History and Life in the Greek World. Teacher Notes This is an excellent activity/game/plenary to further improve student’s work and knowledge. I split the class into two teams (in one class I have girls against boys but in another class I have just divided the room down the middle) and when we play the game each side decides on a volunteer to come to the front, facing the class so they can’t see the board (one team at a time). A word is shown on the IWB and each time the word is answered correctly I display another. This works really well but it is important to set some ground rules such as not using words that rhyme with the word on display. I’ve yet to come across a class who doesn’t like the concept. Works brilliantly in pairs also - 1 student turns their back to the IWB. Further Notes Student sits at front with back to board. Words are displayed behind him/her. Rest of class has to describe word to student - see how many he/she gets in 1 min. Can be reversed so that student can see the words and has to describe them to the class.

What did the Greeks ever do for us?

What did the Greeks ever do for us?

This is a fun history lesson about the Greeks, and what the Greeks created that we still use today. Children are given the information on 9 different Greek inventions we still use today, and are then asked to prioritise each one. Which one is the most important to them? Why? It can generate a great discussion whilst teaching children a little about the Greeks. I used it as a "one off" during our Greeks Topic.
