This movie talks about women empowerment, fighting your fears, component of a story, breaking taboos, fight against false norms. stand up for ones right, effects of war on the children, role of women in a conservative society, respect and love for one’s country and values. women education, stand up for your family, value of a family, stepping out of your comfort zones, you can do anything if you are determined, etc etc etc

Astronaut Jim - reading comprehension with True / False questions and creative activity

This activity is for young ESL learners (aged 7 - 14). It is useful due to the fact that it deals with space vocabulary, repeats new words several times in the text to ensure that the words stick and has pictures that help children follow what is happening in the story. For stronger students, they will not need the pictures, but weaker students can use this to their advantage. The True / False questions aid their reading comprehension. You can also monitor their pronunciation as you can ask them to read out loud. Learning Objectives: To use the space vocabulary studied. To understand how an English story is set out on the page. To practise the present simple tense. To apply preexisting vocabulary to a new theme (colours to space for example) How I used this worksheet/recommended: Teach vocabulary to do with space (I used flashcards for this). Ask students what life is like on a different planet (elicit the words scary, exciting, fun etc.) Tell students that we are going to read a story about aliens. Children read out loud in turns. Children do the True/False by themselves. Correct as a class. Children ‘wind down’ by designing their own planet with aliens and labelling it. (Practises writing skills) This is an excellent activity which was received well by all my students, ranging from 7 to 12.

This Spring Write About The Picture has been created for emerging writers, with the goal of enabling students to achieve success with independent writing. Students have been provided with a word bank to help with spelling and encourage ideas for writing. To begin to extend sentences students have also been provided with colour words. They should first colour the picture with the ‘best’ colour, then use the finished coloured picture to enable them to begin to write longer sentences. This is the core of this resource. Teaching Points: • Students will need some prior knowledge of what it means to extend a sentence and the role that adjectives can play in this • Students should be encouraged to use as many colours as possible to colour their pictures I have added some extras to give students and teachers an element of choice- Differentiation: • Alternative handwriting lines • A second bordered page for students who wish to write at length • The photo section provides more difficult vocabulary and could lead more able writers towards a ‘what happened next’ story writing style, should the teacher wish to lead them in this direction • An editable version of all content has been provided for the teacher to make vocabulary choices. Oxford AQA exam essay comparisons

This lesson(s) is based around the Oxford AQA English exam (part B) -writing section. Essentially it is an introduction for students unfamiliar with the structure/content of an academic, narrative or descriptive essay. It could also be used as a revision/recap essay if you so wish. The first ppt’s identify the components of each essay type. Next students to work in groups to identify what they thought the structure/content of each essay was. I would board their ideas then compare/discuss the responses with the points I included on my ppt’s. Task 1: I then gave the students a topic (fishing in a lake) and asked them to write a descriptive essay (you choose word limit). This is slightly scaffolded as you would want the students to broadly stay on topic for review reasons. First time writers would need help and possible feedback, and depending on your student level/ability you could get them to do this individually or in groups. It could take longer than 1 lesson; it could also be set as homework. The choice is entirely up to you. Task 2 is designed for narrative writing. Again slightly scaffolded and possible answe supplied. Afterwards class/group discussion as to the differences between descriptive and narrative essays in particular. Task 3 Examples of narrative writing: group discussion works best-slightly open forum. I found this a very useful lesson for students who are making the transition to newer forms of essay writing.
