PAPER 2 AQA 8700 spec Questions 3 - 5

This bundle contains 13 full lessons covering questions 3 - 5 from paper 2 of the AQA 8700 spec. The total of all 13 lessons individually is £42 but I’m willing to sell them for £20 giving you a saving of 52%. What will you get in this bundle? Lessons come with a range of activities and supportive material. I teach 3 hour sessions therefore each full lesson contains enough material to span 3 hours. These include videos, speaking and listening activities, various worksheets and independent writing tasks. There is also a paper 2 mock paper included in this pack based around War Speeches. My classes are of mixed abilities so the lessons are differentiated to cater to mixed cohorts. There are 2 / 3 lessons per question. Style of lessons I like to teach using cultural pop references to help engage my students and underpin the skills needed in order to pass the exam. I enjoy having a fast pace in my class and so stagger the activities from 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 30 mins. I usually start with a group task as a starter and a long independent writing task, based from the exam, as the final task and a short self assessment or peers assessment plenary. My topics in this bundle range from light hearted topics such as the music of Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin, Dicaprio vrs Kanye - a top seller , to lesson which underpin more serious social issues and British values such as the UK pet trade in Monkeys and Sophie Lancaster story. Hope it helps

Paper 2 Question 3 AQA English Language spec 8700 - Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin

Paper 2 Question 3 AQA English Language spec 8700 - Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin

A fantastic full lesson based on The Forever 27 Club comes with 6 resources which included articles, worksheets, full power point with guidance notes, quiz, music clips and independent study. This lesson covers the essential skills needed for Paper 2 Question 3 and also allows time to cover some deeper social issues which some of your students may have experience with, such as body image, gender stereotypes and substance abuse. This lesson enables the students to look at a piece of non fiction and identify language techniques used to influence the readers. It is a fun and fully interactive quick paced lesson where the students investigate language but also learn about two of the most influential musicians of our time and how their personal issue are still issues we face today. The lesson aims to walk students through the process of piecing together a final answer, based on their investigations, which would be expected in the final exam. The lesson ends with a student self assessment plenary called "The Hand of Truth" and optional independent study. Although the source used in this lesson is not from the 19th century it does still instil the skills a student will need to answer this question. Further examples of older sources can also be found in my shop which will be significantly useful when teaching paper 2. This lesson is designed for a 3 hour session but is easily adaptable to suit your own timetable. Hope it helps.

What are you talking about? A fun and interactive speaking and listening game!

This resource is great for students of all ages, I have played it with every year group in my school and they love it. Students work in two teams and take turns selecting a member of their team to take a seat with their back to the board. A series of images are then displayed in relation to a selected topic. The individual with their back to the board must try to guess what the image is by listening to the clues their team-mates give them. 3 versions of the game included but you can create your own by replacing images.

Musical Instruments for EAL /ESL/ ELL

Musical Instruments for EAL /ESL/ ELL

This printable resource Musical Instruments provides a range of worksheets activities and games for teaching and reinforcing the vocabulary of 20 musical instruments through listening, speaking, reading and writing. The resource also includes learning and recording a few facts about some musical instruments. The resource has picture and word matching cards, dominoes, I have… Who has? game, cut and stick, word searches, information cards, true and false and chart completion by identifying and extracting the relevant details from the information cards. Laminating is recommended for durability of the games and information cards . If the information cards are separated and given to individual students, this will encourage speaking in English and interaction with other students who will need to see all the cards for completion of each of the True or False worksheets. A few questions could be suggested for students to use when locating the required information cards. The following are a few examples of what could be written on a white board so that students could have support while asking for/locating cards. Who has the ________ card? Do you have the _______ card? May I have the __________ card please? Can I have the __________ card please? Are you finished with the ___________ card? Would you pass me the ________ card please. or I’m looking for the __________ . I need the ___________.

Learning English through songs

Learning English through songs

Reading literary works at intermediate levels often implies the use of abridged versions adapted to the linguistic competence of the students in question . Yet, even when these kinds of books ensure comprehension, they “kill” the style of the original work, as well as the richness and versatility of the language. Abridged versions present at least two main drawbacks: they are not authentic material, and since they are texts used only as a means to display language structure, there is little, or no engagement at the discourse level, on the part of the student. Song lyrics represent authentic material; they do not need to be abridged because they can be selected according to the students’ linguistic level of competence. They resemble poetry and lend themselves to be used to the teaching of literary theory. Besides, listening to songs facilitate language acquisition and help students develop phonological awareness “Music has the ability to facilitate language acquisition, reading readiness, and general intellectual development....... to enhance creativity and to promote social development, personality adjustment, and self-worth.” (Weinberger, N.1998 P 56, 36-40)
