Thinking about the different ways we use water

Thinking about the different ways we use water

This resource is aimed at upper KS2 or lower KS3 and is part of a wider Rivers unit (see ‘Rivers - medium term plan’). The presentation asks children to think about all the different ways we use water and where we get it from. Are these uses necessary (needs) or luxury (wants)? Children then categorise these uses as commercial/industrial, agricultural, recreational or community. Lastly, they are asked to consider how we can balance human water requirements with those of Earth’s wildlife. In the activity children sort photos of different water uses into six different categories. The extension then challenges them to classify each water use as either necessary or luxury and explain their reasoning. If you like this resource, please review it. I will happily send you a free resource of your choice in return for a review or useful suggestions/feedback. Contact me at eddiebray@yahoo.co.uk

Lesson: Introduction to Human Rights

Lesson: Introduction to Human Rights

****Introduction to Human Rights (PSHE/Citizenship) I use this with Key Stage 3 as part of their PSHE/Citizenhip carousel. They start by considering their own HR’s. Then we consider a set of potential ‘school rules’. They then consider some HR terminology and decision making. They are given some real world implications and discuss: access to education etc Very self-explanatory. There are notes for delivery in the Notes section of the PowerPoint.

Craftivism: Climate Coalition Heart Badge

Craftivism: Climate Coalition Heart Badge

Award winning activist Sarah Corbett founded the Craftivist Collective in 2009 to create a community and resources that use craft as a tool for effective and gentle activism. A lifelong campaigner, Sarah became doubtful of traditional activism methods and wondered if we couldn’t use craft to protest in a gentler, more beautiful way. Sarah says: “Politicians and businesses take note when we stand up for what we believe: craftivism gifts for influential people can encourage them to be the change they wish to see in the world. The time and thought that goes into craftivism pieces shows genuine care and commitment. Handmade, unusual campaigns using craft attract media attention, give people who are nervous of activism the chance to join in and intrigue passers-by.
