Explore Odysseus' stops on his journey from Troy to Ithaca.

Explore Odysseus' stops on his journey from Troy to Ithaca.

This is a 38 page, multiple lesson PPT with detailed descriptions of each of the 14 stops that Odysseus makes; beginning in Troy and ending in his beloved Ithaca. The PPT contains multiple visual representations of these stops to help the class to engage with and picture the many characters that the hero meets as well as forming opinions upon Odysseus as a leader and hero. Learning objectives: Identifying the key stops, analysing the actions of the crew, evaluating the actions of Odysseus. There are challenge questions throughout to stretch learners - these are indicated by a 'star' image. There is also a written version of the stops to enable differentiated starting points for more able pupils to work at their own pace. In terms of activities, the main task is a 'knowledge and analysis' based task where the class consider each stop, the characters met, crew's behaviour and Odysseus' leadership, as well as looking at whether Odysseus is helped or hindered each time. Additionally, the PPT features a first person narrative extended writing task regarding the Cyclops and ends with a quiz of the entire journey. Finally, the PPT requires the class to evaluate and assess which of the stops caused Odysseus the greatest hindrance and where he gained the greatest help. The lesson could be used across 3-4 lessons. LL.

CREATE AN INSTANT INTRODUCTION TO ROMAN NUMERALS AND NUMBERS IN LATIN IN YOUR CLASSROOM - PERFECT FOR READING AND SPEAKING PROMPTS TOO! These LATIN numbers and ROMAN NUMERALS display posters create a fabulous LATIN feel to your classroom. Giving your learning environment LATIN ’look’ also promotes LATIN as a ’real’ language, featuring in the everyday life of the school. The posters introduce learners to NUMBERS 1-20 in LATIN from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of LATIN words, and how they are represented in the written form. Additionally, they provide an opportunity to engage with ROMAN NUMERALS, which is also great for some cross-curricular activities with maths! The posters work well with older students in their first LATIN lessons too! I've also included a B&W version if you prefer not to print in color. The resource consists of two non-editable files; please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - the resource is copyright and for single teacher/purchaser use only. GRATIA PLENA!

LATIN FOR CHILDREN - 20 FRUITS & VEGETABLES DISPLAY POSTERS / FLASHCARDS

LATIN FOR CHILDREN - 20 FRUITS & VEGETABLES DISPLAY POSTERS / FLASHCARDS

CREATE AN INSTANT INTRODUCTION TO FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IN LATIN IN YOUR CLASSROOM - PERFECT FOR READING AND SPEAKING PROMPTS TOO! BENE SAPIAT! display posters / flashcards create an instant introduction to 20 scrumptious fruits and vegetables in LATIN in your classroom. They also give your learning environment a fabulous LATIN look and feel, promoting LATIN as a ‘real’ language, featuring in the everyday life of your learners. The posters / flashcards introduce learners to a range of fruits and vegetables in LATIN from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarisz themselves with both the ‘look’ of LATIN words, and how those words are represented in the written form. The fruits and vegetables are in either the singular or plural form, with a selection of masculine, feminine and neuter nouns. This is a great opportunity to begin to compare LATIN to English. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from, English, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, and how nouns may change from the singular to the plural. This is really useful for both current and later learning. It doesn’t matter if some of the fruits and vegetables don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters / flashcards provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with LATIN, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates, and to begin to identify patterns in language. Likewise, they help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual and linguistic clues or prompts - for example, encourage learners to look at the neuter nouns, and how they frequently end in ’m’, and at how feminine plural nouns frequently end in ’ae’. Along the way, learners will enhance their vocabulary in English - who can recognize ‘citrus’ from the word for lemon? Learners can also suggest other fruits and vegetables to add to the display, looking for the correct LATIN words in a bilingual dictionary, and may even choose to try some fruits and vegetables they haven’t tasted before! The fruits and vegetables featured are: - apple - bananas - grapes - lemon - orange - peach - pear - raspberry - strawberry - watermelon - broccoli - cabbage - carrots - cauliflower -cucumber - lettuce - mushrooms - onion - potatoes - tomato The resource consists of two non-editable files. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - the posters are copyright, and for single-teacher/purchaser use only. GRATIA PLENA ET BENE SAPIAT!

LATIN FOR CHILDREN - 80 ANIMALS GAMES CARDS & REFERENCE SHEET

LATIN FOR CHILDREN - 80 ANIMALS GAMES CARDS & REFERENCE SHEET

PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE AND PRACTICING LANGUAGE SKILLS IN LATIN! LATIN ANIMALS GAMES CARDS (1) are perfect for young learners of LATIN. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both masculine and feminine, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the general absence of determiners in LATIN too. It doesn’t matter if any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with LATIN and to begin to identify similarities with ENGLISH - encourage children to look for cognates and near-cognates such as DINOSAURUS and ELEPHANTUS for example. The games also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using linguistic as well as visual clues and prompts. For example, can they recognise CANINE from the LATIN word for dog? They may even know the adjective VULPINE - can they identify this from the noun for fox, VULPES? Along the way, children may even get to know some new animals and enhance their vocabulary in English too! There are 80 CARDS in total, which include 2 DECKS of 40 CARDS to enable you to vary and differentiate your games: DECK 1: matching LATIN & ENGLISH cards, with both the picture and the word. The ENGLISH cards have a different frame, with blackline pictures. To keep costs down, simply print all the cards using just black ink. DECK 2: this pack features word-only cards in LATIN, with a matching set of picture-only cards. This is really useful for a focus on word recognition and recall. I’ve included a word & picture reference sheet for children to read through before they play. The sheet can be shared between small groups of children, or distributed individually for children to file in their workbooks or learning folders for future reference. The animals featured are: - bee - bird - cat - cow - dinosaur - dog - donkey - elephant - fish - fox - frog - giraffe - goose - horse - lion - mouse - owl - rabbit - spider - whale The resource consists of two, non-editable files. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully; the resource is copyright, and for single-teacher/purchaser use only. GRATIA PLENA!
