Clowning Around: Lesson Plan & Film

The clown is an entertainer, an integral social figure across cultures for centuries. Clowns can characterize society and provide a comedic way of viewing the world. Laugh Clown Laugh offers a portrait of Berlin based clown Reinhard “Filou” Horstkotte. The role of the clown, for Reinhard, is not just to entertain, but to explore the whole human being including all of the contradictions. For him, there is truly more to being a clown than laughter.

Making a Difference as a Teacher

Making a Difference as a Teacher

Think for a moment about some of the teachers you have had in the past. You have probably had some incredible teachers as well as a number of forgettable ones. I remember one teacher in high school who basically came into class and just read to us from the text book.

The Excellency of Practical Wisdom

The Excellency of Practical Wisdom

Only a wise person can explain why individuals and entire nations are either blessed or cursed, depending on their way of life.True wisdom involves exercising sound judgment and applying knowledge and understanding in a successful way. James lists a number of things that will be evident in the actions of those who are wise. “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”

Six indispensable principles for Teachers and Leaders

Six indispensable principles for Teachers and Leaders

Every one of us is a teacher or leader in our own right. Before you can teach/ lead someone, you must be able to teach/ lead yourself. That means cultivating discernment, decisiveness, dedication, determination, discipline, self-actualization, sense of purpose, and humility. A teacher is a leader. Leadership is not about superiority, position, or prestige. It’s about revealing and releasing the knowledge and potential of those around us. Without question the Jesus of Nazareth was one of the greatest teacher the world has ever known and he frequently led by example. He said “Come, follow me.” His was a program of “do what I do,” rather than “do what I say.”
