At this time of year, we all have lots of ‘jobs’ on our ‘to do’ list and the last thing we need is ‘bits’ to laminate! For that reason, I have created some fun pages for this Christmas Literacy and Numeracy Activities Pack, that need little or no preparation - ready to keep those early finishers occupied! I have included a range of activities for a range of abilities, some just plain fun and some a little more challenging. Review skills are included throughout the 10 literacy and 10 math activities. Cutting, glueing and colouring will be required. A little interactive flip flap fun is also included! All activities are in both colour and black-line versions. Workplace Health and Safety game - Interactive fun challenge for teams and groups

Workplace Health and Safety game - Interactive fun challenge for teams and groups

This fun visual game can be used as a warm-up to a lesson on Health and Safety, or at the end of a lesson as a quick quiz. How the game works: The PowerPoint computer based game can be played in teams or as a group / class activity. The objective is to reveal what is behind the numbers on the presentation, one square at a time. Each team picks a number and answers a question. (Questions and answers are provided in the worksheet). If they answer the question correctly, then they can click on a number on the PowerPoint presentation to display a portion (square) of the picture in the background. The background picture is slowly revealed. The first team to identify the background picture wins.

DIRT Peer and Self Assessment cards with WWW and EBI sentence stems

DIRT Peer and Self Assessment cards with WWW and EBI sentence stems

Promote reflection and self-assessment with these student friendly DIRT (directed, independent, reflection time) cards. The cards support students in becoming independent enquirers who are able to identify and confidently articulate the strengths and areas for improvement in their own - or their peers - work. The student friendly sentence stems support students in making informed and justified reflections about their work and progress. The DIRT card has four quadrants. The top two quadrants are for self-assessment. In the left quadrant are sentence stems for reflecting on what went well in students' work, whereas the top right quadrant supports students in reflecting on what they need to improve on. The bottom two quadrants follow the same format, except the sentence stems are designed for Peer Assessment. Again, the left quadrant models how to reflect on things that went well, whilst the right quadrants promotes critical reflection on what might be improved. All the sentence stems are student friendly; please see the student voice feedback from my own learners about the positive impact this resource has had on learning. PDF and editable Publisher file included.

Christmas Creep and Consumerism- Reading Comprehension Worksheet / Vocabulary Worksheet / Speaking

Christmas Creep and Consumerism- Reading Comprehension Worksheet / Vocabulary Worksheet / Speaking

This Christmas themed worksheet introduces the theme of the Christmas Creep phenomenon and it familiarizes students with vocabulary pertaining to consumerism and merchandise. It is ideal for native speakers and ESL/ EFL intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced students. The reading comprehension questions (questions, True / False) that follow require close reading and evaluate understanding. The speaking exercise invites students to critically think about consumerism and today's society. Lastly, the vocabulary exercises (sentence completion, definition matching, word finding) focus on prepositions and expanding your students' lexicon. It can be completed as an in-class activity or it can be assigned as homework.
