This lesson puts the Iron Age in context by introducing the period of British history from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Pupils will make a timeline to set this period into the wider context of British History and they will discover how we break up this period into distinct Ages. 2. No Place Like Home: What was life like at an Iron Age hill fort? Pupil will discover what life was like in an Iron Age hillfort in Britain. This lesson encourages pupils to engage imaginatively with this historical setting and reflect on how life in this period might have been different to life today, making a storyboard to record their ideas. As an extension activity pupils are challenged to find out about archaeological sites like Maiden Castle. 3. Picturing the Iron Age:What was Iron Age art like? Pupils will consider what kind of artefacts tell us about life in the Iron Age. They will investigate the designs found in Celtic art and use these ideas to make their own Celtic design.

This lesson also introduces the idea that not all artefacts survive over time and invites pupils to research some important British archaeological sites. Hidden History, Fact or Fiction?

Hidden History, Fact or Fiction?

Presentation designed to as a useful activity as a starter or plenary activity in History. 100 statements are given with roughly 50% of them being accepted as factually correct. Statements are in chronological order. Students are challenged to use historical skills, logic and reasoning to decide if the statement is “fact” or “fiction”. If the correct response is chosen you will hear an appropriate noise and be taken directly to the next challenge. If the wrong response is chosen you will be taken to an appropriate slide and invited to try again. There is also the option of setting a number of challenges without going to the answer to allow all members of the class to participate. The whole presentation contains 103 slides and hyperlinks are embedded throughout.
