#### Edexcel Large Data Set Activity 2

This is the second worksheet in a series designed to increase students' familiarity with Edexcel's Large Data Set, required for the new linear A Level. It also provides practice of some of the sampling techniques in the new A Level specification. It can be completed as a homework task as it requires no specialist software beyond a spreadsheet. Answers are provided.

#### Statistics: (S1) Skewness (Pearson's / Quartiles / Standard Deviation) + worksheet

This is a whole lesson looking at the different aspects of skewness, what it is, how to calculate it and maybe most importantly interpreting the results in terms of the data. The lesson look at how to calculate using Pearson's measure of Skewness, the Quartile Skewness and also how to calculate using the IQR for Outliers. 14 slides. #### Statistics: (S1) Combining Data Sets (Mean & Standard Deviation)

This is a whole lesson on looking at combining data sets, in particular combining the mean and standard deviation. It comes with a starter, learning objectives, different small activities to assess understanding, lots of examples, and plenary. The strength of this resource (16 slides) is the excellent examples and teaching content. When looking through my files I couldn't find a particularly great worksheet or activity on this, so I have included a mixture of things that I had already, which have some good questions in. I looked through various textbooks I have and the best I saw was the Cambridge one, but again it only had a few really good questions in. #### Statistics: (S1) Normal Distribution 3 - Backwards and Further Problems (+ worksheets)

This is the third of four lessons on the normal distribution, which builds on the first two lessons. This is your A/A* material, looking at different types of questions and problems. This is an excellent resource, with lots and lots of excellent teaching slides, 21 slides. Specifically, this lesson is for teaching about how to work backwards and different questions. It does touch on linear combinations, so I recommend teaching that first (also available from my shop) and looks in detail at little issues/ mistakes that people can make. This is a vital lesson for your top end students and gives less able students more time to practise the normal distribution. I have therefore included two worksheets (exam questions) aimed at different abilities students and then come with accompanying mark schemes. This is the second of four lessons on the normal distribution, which builds on the first lesson that introduced the topic by looking at what to do when data is not in the standard normal form. This is an excellent resource, with lots and lots of excellent teaching slides, 21 slides. Specifically, this lesson is for teaching what is the normal distribution is, the criteria for using it and how and HOW TO STANDARDISE, and again how to use lookup tables to solve problems that are in a standard normal form having standardised. I have also included questions I often used with accompanying mark scheme. #### Descriptive Statistics / Representing Data Topic Mat

Structured worksheet to help pupils take key notes and for the topics involving Interpreting Statistics in Year 1 (Scatter Graphs/Corr/Histograms/Box Plots/Measures of Central Tendency/Linear Interpolation etc). There's quite a lot here so I recommend photocopying this one onto A3. Designed for the new A Level Maths (2017+), Edexcel Specification. #### S3 Estimation and Confidence Intervals Topic Mat

A mat to summarise key concepts from the S3 topic Estimation and Confidence Interval (Edexcel). This one is quite big so I put it onto A3 paper! I also include a suggestion for how the mat could be filled out. I usually use it as a plenary โ ask the pupils for the key ideas from the lesson and collectively fill in sections over a sequence of lessons. At the end of a topic they have a topic mat from which to revise from. I also photocopy them on different coloured paper so they act as dividers in studentsโ folders.
