Calculations Wordsearch Puzzle Sheet Keywords Settler Starter Cover Lesson Maths Calculators

Calculations Wordsearch Puzzle Sheet Keywords Settler Starter Cover Lesson Maths Calculators

Wordsearch Puzzle sheet on the theme of 'Calculations'. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Colour by substitution 1

Colour by substitution 1

As the title suggests, this is a colouring sheet for practising solving questions where substitution is involved. It covers adding, subtracting, multiplying, and order of operations including negative numbers. Unlike other maths colouring sheets, each sheet only requires three different colours and therefore requires fewer teacher supplies. Students solve the answers to the questions and colour based on their solution. This then creates a pattern which looks great on a classroom wall. The solution is the pattern displayed. All feedback gratefully accepted.

Fractional and negative indices bingo

Fractional and negative indices bingo

Resource contains ppt, teachers question card with a choice of three questions per solution, instructions and bingo cards. Like other maths bingo games, this often aids discussion of solutions and as it is in a win-able game format, aids engagement too. Laminate the teachers question set. You can then use a whiteboard marker to mark off and keep track of which questions you have asked. It will then wipe clean when you are done ready to use with another class. When you are ready to play, either cut up the bingo cards included or get students to draw 3x3 grids in their books. Then get students to choose 3 numbers from each line – this allows you to have more control when you are ready to complete the game by picking a max of three questions from one of the rows until you are ready to complete the game.

Colour by indices with algebra with extension

Colour by indices with algebra with extension

As the title suggests, this is a colouring sheet for practising the power rules with indices e.g. a^3 x a^2=a^5. It covers multiplying, dividing and brackets with some containing both multiplying and dividing. Unlike other maths colouring sheets, each sheet only requires four different colours and therefore requires fewer teacher supplies. Students solve the answers to the equations and colour based on their solution. This then creates a pattern which looks great on a classroom wall. Two solutions do not fit the pattern and students are encouraged to find their own questions that will fit the pattern allowing for stretch and challenge. The solution is the pattern displayed. The white spaces are where the solution does not fit the pattern. All feedback gratefully accepted.
