Beginners French KS2 / KS3 Greetings and Introductions unit printable speaking activities: A set of 24 role play / skits cards and 36 active oral game cards for basic French greetings (les salutations), farewells and introductions (Je me presente / Introducing myself). These resources will help you plan multiple lessons at Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 (upper Primary and early Secondary and equivalents) for students beginning French or near beginners requiring revision of basic vocab and phrases. Full instructions are included in the files.
Children can pair up to translate the English into French. The English language sides are designed to be printed back-to-back with the appropriate translation for students to check. If preferred the translations could be printed as separate cards. I’ve included a vocabulary card, which can be provided for support where required.
This oral activity reinforces ways of saying ‘hello’ (Bonjour, Salut etc) and ‘goodbye’ (Au revoir etc) as well as asking and answering questions such as ‘Ca va?’ (How are you?), ‘Comment tu t’appelles?’ (What’s your name?), ‘Quel age as-tu?’ (How old are you?), ‘Ou habites-tu?’ (Where do you live?) and ‘Tu es de quelle nationalite?’ (What nationality are you?). It’s a good stepping stone to more independent role-playing activities.
Print and laminate the cards and give one to each child. The questions Comment tu t’appelles?, Quel age as-tu? and Ou habites-tu? will be asked and answered as children circulate, trying to find themselves! This can be played regularly and works well as a main lesson activity or fun starter / finisher task. To make the locations featured more relevant to students, there is a UK version, a US / Canada version and an Australia / NZ version all within the same file.
