This hand-drawn illustration of the Red Squirrel is a great way to stir interest within children for endangered animals. Colouring in is a symbolic way to give endangered species significance and worth. Children will naturally be curious to find out more, or this sheet could form part of a project to learn why this animal is declining in the wild?

The Red Squirrel was once native to the United Kingdom, however the introduction of the grey squirrel led to the decline of these colonies. Efforts are being made to re-introduce the red squirrel to habitats around the United Kingdom, but the decline in numbers is a lesson in how man can affect nature.

Colouring is a perfect means of relaxation, as well as a great tool for teaching colour, texture and of course, imagination.
