Starting out as an RSE Lead? Here are some tips to get going.

For ten years, Bankside Primary School has been running its own RSE programme, called Living and Growing. The Assistant Head Teacher, Kauser Jan, heads up this work and shares her top tips on what has helped them make a success of the work. The RSE lessons are supported by a whole-school approach to teaching relationship skills, talking through difficult subjects with pupils and by using restorative justice.
Kauser says: “We need to lay the foundations to prepare our pupils for the world they’ll grow up in. If they find themselves in danger or in an emotional crisis, they won’t worry about square roots or punctuation, they’ll need emotional resilience, self-awareness and the skills and understanding to form positive relationships. RSE helps them with that.”
Read on to find out what’s worked for them.
