This STEM/STEAM lesson was taught during our SIAMS inspection. Our RE topic was our Wonderful World and we have been looking at the Wesley value of Generosity.
The activity the children had to discuss and solve was the problem of cleaning oil from a feather (link to ocean pollution).
I have included:
A powerpoint of images, a lesson plan, Wesley quote, Global goal 14 poster and sheets to help with recording.
I linked the lesson to the UN Global Goal 14 for water conservation and life below water.
We reflected on how we could be more generous and help the environment. I used the power-point images to help the discussions.
I took the whole morning for the activities, to really allow the children to think and reflect.
This activity was with a year 2 class, but I will also be teaching it with year 4 later in the week.
The feather clean up activity was shared with me by the fabulous National STEM Learning Centre in York.
