Forbidden Places SOW

Forbidden Places SOW

This scheme of work focuses around the concept of place in Geography by examining first what “place” is, then going on to look at why the history of places shapes the modern Geography. This is done through looking at several places that can be seen as restricted from the general public by features such as physical geography, politics, culture or even nuclear disaster…! I have taught this for the first time this year after being inspired by my students’ interest in Area 51. It has been very well received and kids have been enthuasiastic about finding out more information on these places, and discovering some of their own. Lots of scope to expand and add your own to it too. Lessons are as follows: 1 - What is a real place? The Case of Las Vegas 2 - Why do some places become forbidden? (requires a map of your school to be added to resources) 3 - North Korea 4 - Pripyat, Chernobyl 5 - Berlin 6 - Area 51 7 -Dismaland Any questions, please let me know.

End of Year Quiz 2018

End of Year Quiz 2018

Every year, I keep getting asked if I am creating another quiz because everyone seems to love them. As we finish school on the 22nd of June this year, I have been able to get this one made during times when the kids are involved in end of year activities! I was lucky as it is so time consuming! The music round alone took me 4 hours to create and I was able to do it whilst kids were on a out of school visit! This will fill a full hour including the marking, but you must be tight on timing. I would suggest for each picture in the places round - 10 seconds. For the personalities round 2 minutes and for the wotz dat?? round 3 minutes maximum. The conundrum round should have no more than 10 minutes, but they should be able to do it in 5 as the focus is English punctuation and there are only so many forms of punctuation. The music round takes 15 minutes (video I have created). My quizzes usually prove to be very popular and the kids love them! Enjoy!

Year 7 Summer Homework

Year 7 Summer Homework

This is a booklet based on the i-spy books where students get points for spotting things in and around their homes and beyond. It covers all the chapters from the geog.1 textbook from OUP, and is designed to be a homework project for Year 7 students to complete during the summer holidays. For each item they find they get points and these points lead to house points, merits, credits, stars (whichever reward system your school uses): I even gave students a certificate for completing it. There are 20 pages which can be printed as an A5 booklet or you can choose which pages you want to use as each chapter from the textbook as a set of activities: my version only has 16 pages as there are some chapters that I don’t get time to cover. There is a word puzzle and a place for the students to keep a record of their points as they collect them, I have a place for parents to sign confirmation that students actually did achieve what they say just in case you get a student that makes it up. There are spaces for images, due to copyright I have removed the pictures that I use, but they can easily by added. The only major thing is the Tourist Information key from an OS map: they will need that.
