Invertebrates - 3-Part Cards

Invertebrates - 3-Part Cards

Montessori 3-Part Cards of Invertebrates When creating this, I wanted a simple classification tool for introducing the classification of invertebrates. This set contains examples of one of each of six major groups of invertebrates. And because sometimes it’s easy to become confused as to just where the arthropods come in and what that involves, I’ve added a second set of cards just for classifying the arthropods. What child can resist the lure of an opportunity for careful inspection of a worm in a puddle after a storm? Or chasing a butterfly with outstretched arms? These real-life photo cards give children a simple introduction to the world of invertebrates by matching, playing games and talking about six of the major groups. But that’s not all! I’ve also made a second set of cards just for the arthropods. There are so many of them and it’s confusing, sometimes, to sort them all out! Not just for a Montessori classroom, this work is a great addition to any unit when the topic is animals without backbones. Red Squirrel Colouring Sheet

Red Squirrel Colouring Sheet

This hand-drawn illustration of the Red Squirrel is a great way to stir interest within children for endangered animals. Colouring in is a symbolic way to give endangered species significance and worth. Children will naturally be curious to find out more, or this sheet could form part of a project to learn why this animal is declining in the wild? The Red Squirrel was once native to the United Kingdom, however the introduction of the grey squirrel led to the decline of these colonies. Efforts are being made to re-introduce the red squirrel to habitats around the United Kingdom, but the decline in numbers is a lesson in how man can affect nature. Colouring is a perfect means of relaxation, as well as a great tool for teaching colour, texture and of course, imagination.

Word Search - Now you see us - Animals

Word search is a firm favourite with children and adults alike, as they are fun and educational at the same time. They offer spelling practice as new words are highlighted and acquired. These puzzles teach context, families of vocabulary and strengthen word recognition. This word search is all about endangered animals, as we cannot address the issue until we understand which animals are under threat. This is a great way to build up knowledge on some of these species, and can be added to a trip to the zoo to add visual recognition of these animals.
