Social Situation Cards

Social Situation Cards

Set of 48 social situation cards designed to promote discussion and debate in the classroom. Can be used as a method in which to illustrate appropriate social response, challenge children's ideas or reinforce positive behaviour. Some are directed at the readers actions e.g. 'you accidentally hurt someone' and some are directed at the readers reaction to anothers' actions e.g. 'Somebody calls you names.' Not all are straight forward right or wrong reactions so it may be interesting to play devils advocate. I have used it with SEND children on 1:1 and group basis, but could be used as a starter or game in PSHE lessons to get children talking. 4 pdf pages of 3X4 squares. Also included is a reaction/action fan which could be used to support children with communication difficulties indicate their thoughts. Might be nice for children who aren't as forthcoming with their ideas or opinions. I've also used the fans to get the children to discuss and choose a route they think is the most appropriate and justify why.

Stand in My Shoes - Guided Reading

Stand in My Shoes - Guided Reading

Standing in someone else’s shoes allows a person to FEEL that person’s feelings. When someone can stand in someone else’s shoes, they can begin to show empathy. Emily barges into her older sister’s room when Alicia is studying for a test. Alicia explains the meaning of empathy to Emily in a way that Emily understands. Throughout the day, Alicia starts to notice how different people in her life are feeling, and she makes every effort to talk to them and offer her support. My packet reinforces how each person in Emily’s life is feeling, why they are feeling a certain way, and how Emily offers her support in the way of words and actions. As a culmination, students will write about how someone has shown empathy to them, or they have shown empathy to someone else. This is a great beginning of the year book in order to build a strong, supportive community of empathetic peers.
