Target Grade setter & Grade Tracker

Target Grade setter & Grade Tracker

Target Grade: Students stick this into the front of their copies. The set their target grade for the subject. Are they achieving their target grade in your class? Self-assessment/ reflection. Exam Tracker: Students fill in the name of the exam & predicted grade the day before the exam. Once the exam is corrected they record the result… Does it compare to their predicted grade? Keep parents/guardian’s in the loop by requesting a signature. (Handy when the students is not achieving their target grade.) Also very useful for parent teacher meetings, as well as mocks. Grade Tracker: Students track their grades in a bar chart format. This will help give your students a visual representation on their progress. It is useful when revising for big exams i.e. Christmas/summer… what needs to be revised in more detail. Also a handy one for numeracy in the classroom.

Lesson Plan Template - Visible Learning Inspired

Lesson Plan Template - Visible Learning Inspired

The Visible Learning lesson plan utilises John Hattie’s research to structure your lesson. Simple, effective, organised. The document is well formatted and structured. It explicitly states the goal(s), reasons for learning, and title of the lesson through the ‘We Are Learning To (WALT), This Is Because (TIB), and What I Am Looking For (WILF)’ headings. It fits neatly onto a one page document that can be filled out directly (without expanding the text boxes), or printed and written by hand. The Visual Learning Lesson Plan integrates assessment measures, or ‘Checks For Understanding’ (CFU), into its three activity slots. Some tips for formatively assessing your students are given at the base of the document. Considerations for student instruction are included in the far left column of each activity. The document includes ‘student focus’, ‘teacher focus’, and time frame columns in order to help teachers (especially beginners) organise, prepare and visualise their lessons. A ‘hook/do now’ section allows teachers to engage students and begin the lesson with discussions, activities, or videos in order to capture their attention. The Visible Learning Lesson Plan is designed for classes of roughly forty minutes to one hour, however the time frames can easily be adjusted by adding additional activity boxes. Simply copy and paste.

Designed to assist both teachers and students with embracing mathematics at the next level. I find it most disparaging to hear teachers say - my students wouldn’t be able to do that. Expect great things from your students! Each activity has something for Year 6 through to 8 and could be explored in any style of engagement. I have attempted to embrace algorithmic thinking, Excel spread sheeting, Python coding, STE(A)M and AI. Mathematics has a rich tradition of exploring at the frontiers of our understanding.

Minesweeper Plenary end of lesson game

Minesweeper Plenary end of lesson game

End your lessons with a bang ! Use this game as a plenary activity. This can be used for any subject and any year. E.g. MFL – translation of vocabulary Maths – answers to sums. History – dates, facts I personally have used it for pupils to translate vocabulary covered in a topic, scaffolding questions, starting with single words and then building up to more complex sentences. How to run the activity: Split the class into two groups or more. Teacher asks a question to each group. Teacher selects by hands up (or miniwhiteboards, or team discussion). Teacher selects a pupil to give the answer. If the answer is correct – pupil can choose a mine. If there’s a coin under the bomb - one point for your team If there’s an explosion under the bomb - lose one point If there’s a super bomb - the rubber duck of the evil clown - lose 2 points. The team with the most points wins!
