AQA A GCSE Theme F Human Rights and Social Justice: Lesson 4 Poverty and exploitation of the poor

AQA A GCSE Theme F Human Rights and Social Justice: Lesson 4 Poverty and exploitation of the poor

This is the 4th lesson in the AQA A GCSE thematic unit of work for ‘Religion, human rights and social justice’ and it is focused on poverty and the exploitation of the poor. The lesson covers the different causes of poverty as well as the ways in which the poor are further exploited through fair pay, excessive interest on loans and people trafficking. This lesson has been particularly focused on the Christian attitudes towards the aforementioned issues but it could be easily altered to take a different religious belief into account. The lesson has been fully resourced to a high standard with a range of differentiated tasks (using the good, better, ASPIRE system). The lesson is designed to challenge the students as well as make them familiar with new concepts, knowledge and how to apply their learning to the exam. There is a 5 mark exam question in this lesson so that the students are constantly being reminded of exam technique and what will be expected of them in terms of application of knowledge. I will be adding lessons on a weekly basis so please keep looking! If you choose to use this resource I would really appreciate a review.

AQA A GCSE Theme F Human Rights and Social Justice: Lesson 2 Prejudice and Discrimination

AQA A GCSE Theme F Human Rights and Social Justice: Lesson 2 Prejudice and Discrimination

This is the 2nd lesson in the AQA A GCSE thematic unit of work for ‘Religion, Human Rights and Social Justice’ and it is focused on ‘Prejudice and Discrimination’. This lesson covers the equivalent of two sections of this theme as it looks at prejudice and discrimination in terms of: disability, sexuality, race and gender. The lesson is very comprehensive in terms of the information the students need for these sections, but it has been designed so that you could deliver it in 1-2 lessons depending on your time frame. The lesson has been fully resourced to a high standard with a range of differentiated tasks (using the good, better, ASPIRE system). The lesson is designed to challenge the students as well as make them familiar with new concepts, knowledge and how to apply their learning to the exam. There is a 12 mark exam question in this lesson so that the students are constantly being reminded of exam technique and what will be expected of them in terms of application of knowledge. I will be adding lessons on a weekly basis so please keep looking! If you choose to use this resource I would really appreciate a review.

Religious Studies RE Year 8 or 9 Suffering & Buddhism & Christianity

Religious Studies RE Year 8 or 9 Suffering & Buddhism & Christianity

This unit includes all you need to teach for 10 sessions or around a term to KS3. There are lesson power points with back up activities, sheets, discussion points, resources etc. There is an assessment page and key word spellings for pupils too. There is a scheme of work to go with the powerpoint too. I have also written a three hour Flip Learning Project which substitutes some of the lessons as additional extra. I have developed a whole unit work from Year 5 up to Year 8 which I am now uploading. It’s all taken me hundreds of hours so I hope this saves you lots of time. Happy Sunday!

A Refugee's Story: Lesson Plan & Film

A Refugee's Story: Lesson Plan & Film

See here for the accompanying lesson plan. This short film tells the story of Mohammed Alsaleh, a young Syrian refugee granted asylum in Canada in 2014. After fleeing torture and imprisonment by the Assad regime, he is rebuilding his life. Mohammed counsels newly-arrived Syrian refugee families with the same Vancouver-based NGO that aided him during his own resettlement process. Like Mohammed, these families have left loved ones behind and are struggling to adapt to a new land, finding resilience and hope for a new beginning. Like thousands of other newly-resettled refugees, Mohammed has been striving to bring his family to safety in Canada. Millions of Syrians are currently displaced within Syria’s borders and in neighboring countries. Students watch a 19-minute documentary that tells the story of Mohammed Alsaleh, a young Syrian refugee granted asylum in Canada in 2014, who is now counseling newly arrived refugees. In this lesson, students explore the themes of cultural displacement, human rights, and resilience. Reflective writing prompts are also included for students to demonstrate their understanding of the story. In the accompanying lesson (see link above), students explore the themes of cultural displacement, human rights, and resilience through classroom discussions. Reflective writing prompts are also included for students to demonstrate their understanding of the story. English and Spanish versions of the lesson plan are available for download.
