AQA RS - ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY TEACHINGS GUIDE

AQA RS - ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY TEACHINGS GUIDE

This is an excellent resource aimed at improving pupils knowledge of the religious teachings needed to score a 9 in the new AQA GCSE. It gives essential quotations in once place for: +Christianity Beliefs and Practices +Islam Beliefs and Practices +Themes B, C, D and E from Christian and Muslim perspectives (apart from theme C which requires atheist views. My pupils have this as the indispensable resource for improvement and have it alongside them whenever they are answering questions. Part of the strength is that they need to engage with the quotations/teachings by explaining what they mean and how they relate to the topics. Essential for 8 and 9 grades. I have been using this for more than five years, across various specifications, to great effect.

The Holocaust: The Ghettos

The Holocaust: The Ghettos

This lesson combines real photographs of the Ghettos and text from Nazi memoranda about what the Ghettos were and where it fit into the 'final solution.' It also includes 4 edited clips of the film the pianist which are very moving, and at times hard to watch, which have learning questions included which can be paused on. The film is a 15, but any violence has been edited out if it was felt to be too much for KS3. Please do watch the clips first, however, just to make sure you feel your students won't be overly distressed. The clips have to be watched in VLC, not media player, and are a little quiet, but are really very powerful ways for students to empathise with what life was like in the Ghettos. Learning questions include: What were the ghettos? What was life like in the ghettos? Why might it have been difficult to keep believing in God as a Jewish person in the Ghettos? There is a homework included, as are extension activities.
