Sample Creative Piece

Sample Creative Piece

CCEA GCSE ENGLISH Language: Unit 4 (Paper 2) Section A: Personal or Creative Writing Here is a sample creative piece in response to one of the mock papers made (and available for download on TES). It is quite dry and whilst the plot line is probably standard enough, it doesn’t really pitch it to the correct audience stipulated in the mock question. The characters are quite static and need to be developed more, and the piece is too short. However, I thought students could use it to see the importance of reading the question carefully and consciously trying to engage the target audience you’ve been assigned. My plan would be that after they in pairs discussed the work, filled in the checklist and gave some feedback on what was good/bad, that we could discuss the stimulus picture and brainstorm some potential plotlines. A lot of them might be inspired to do a Pretty Little Liars style thing where the main character perhaps gets texts from a mysterious unknown person, or perhaps go down a bullying route?

Key Stage 3 English Language Exam Prep

Key Stage 3 English Language Exam Prep

A lesson, which could stretch over two, 1 hour, periods this lesson prepares key stage 3 for a practice language exam. This lesson is based on the sample AQA English Language Key Stage 3 paper which avaliable on their site, I cannot put this as an attachment due to copyright laws BUT this is very easy to find on the AQA site. The lesson walks the pupils, step by step, through question 1,2,4, and 5 by using model examples and top tips to answer each questions - there is also time for the pupils to have a go at this question too. Question 3 is omitted from this ppt as we don’t include it on our own examination for key stage 3, but it can be easily added if required. Many thanks for looking :)

Persuasive Writing Self-Assessment Activity - includes FAR marking strategies

Suitable for KS3 and KS4. This resource is suitable as a criteria sheet that students can use to achieve their persuasive writing targets. They can keep re-visiting the sheet for HW tasks too throughout the year (if it’s glued into their exercise books). The key strategy governing the activity is that students are taking charge of their own progress and learning to be independent learners as the criteria sheet is an important tool in their learning toolbox. The activity also deploys FAR marking techniques.

Animal Farm: Quotations, Contextual Information and Vocabulary WEEKLY TASKS

Animal Farm: Quotations, Contextual Information and Vocabulary WEEKLY TASKS

This is an extremely useful resource to be used alongside the study of George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’. There are three booklets included that cover ten weeks of homework. The first booklet contains weekly comprehensive homework tasks that requires pupils to learn three key quotations, a short piece of contextual information and three pieces of vocabulary. It also contains a weekly task. The second booklet contains weekly tests to check their learning. These tests are cumulative, so require pupils to retain knowledge from previous weeks. The final booklet contains the answers to all weekly tests to enable teachers to quickly and accurately mark pupils’ work. This could alternatively be distributed to pupils in order for them to self or peer mark. These booklets have proved to be invaluable in preparing our pupils for the demands of GCSE English Literature. Their ability to retain quotations and discuss the text confidently has greatly improved, and the pupils can see their learning is very clearly structured.

Act 4 Scene 3 Macbeth GCSE English Literature 9-1

Act 4 Scene 3 Macbeth GCSE English Literature 9-1

Everything you need to teach Act 4 Scene 3 of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This is also available as part of a bundle whereby a considerable saving can be made; following the full scheme is recommended. The lessons have been created specifically for teaching at GCSE level, and cover the key assessment objectives for 9-1 New-Specification AQA: understanding of the text, language and structure, context/themes/author intent (although equally applicable to other exam boards). Differentiated outcomes and tasks allow you to reach all learners, although I would recommend the lessons specifically for middle to higher ability students. Throughout the scheme, students are encouraged to make notes and annotate the text, as this will be a valuable revision tool when preparing for exams. No fear version is also included as a further scaffolding tool for lower ability learners. Teacher notes are provided on the PowerPoint to help explain and guide you through all phases of the lesson, with a range of interesting and engaging tasks for you to choose from. Importantly, full analysis is provided for all the tasks set, to enable you to lead interesting and engaging discussions which will deepen the students’ appreciation of the text. Strictly speaking, there is a lot more here than you would fit into a 1 hour lesson, so you may wish to spread this over a couple of lessons, or perhaps be a little selective with the tasks you wish to do. PDF version is for preview purposes. Buy in confidence from a TES recommended gold author! If you make a purchase and find the resource useful, why not get another one absolutely free?
