Christmas Advent Calen'BAR' Word Problems for Bar Modelling ($ VERSION)

Christmas Advent Calen'BAR' Word Problems for Bar Modelling ($ VERSION)

Here is an advent calendar with a difference - 4 word problems, everyday for 1st Dec to 24th Dec. Included in this package are 4 word problems for 1st December to 24th December which encourage the use of the bar model. The bar model is a useful tool for helping children visualise and then solve maths problems. Even some of the most complex problems can be seen much easier when represented visually. This advent calen’bar’ provides an opportunity for everyone to just do some maths and enjoy the run up to Christmas. Suitable for those who use Singapore Maths. Numbers 1 & 2 are simpler problems that involve 1 or two steps. This would be suitable for children who are younger or less confident using the bar model. Numbers 3 & 4 are slightly more complex and require several steps before solving the problem. The PowerPoint includes all the of problems which could be displayed on the class whiteboard for the class to solve. I have included a black line smaller version of all the questions so that they could be printed off and stuck in books. You could do these questions every day until the end of the school term, send the weekend dates home as homework or it could be used as a larger session where these problems could be posted around the room or even around the school and everyone takes part. Have some Christmas maths fun! All money amounts are in $ and c but refer to typical British Christmas things such as mince pies and Brussel sprouts!!

£ and pence wordsearch

£ and pence wordsearch

Students identify the correct amount of money and turn it into words, they then have to find the words in the puzzle. Both have 4 variations, both use the same quantities. The easier is only by word direction.
