Tackling anxiety and depression - building resilience

Tackling anxiety and depression - building resilience

Young people are faced with so many issues today. It is a national issue, young people crumbling under the pressure. Anxiety/depression are continuing to overwhelm our students. I've put together this resource to help understand what it is, to help talk about the issues and using a 6 domain of resilience to get students thinking about how they can overcome these (and other mental health) issues.

The Barbers Wordsearch Careers PHSE Literacy Starter Activity Homework Cover Lesson Plenary

The Barbers Wordsearch Careers PHSE Literacy Starter Activity Homework Cover Lesson Plenary

Wordsearch on the theme of 'The Barbers'. Suitable for careers activities. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

New school year assembly - what is your 5 year plan?

New school year assembly - what is your 5 year plan?

This assembly starts by getting student to think about new years resolutions they made and probably failed at. It then goes through a more sustainable long term 5 year plan and what this might look like for students. It lasts around 15 minutes and is a great assembly for the start of the academic year. It is aimed at all secondary year groups and worked well when I performed it especially when students got involved. Save yourself some time this summer and grab a bargain.
