Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Understanding who you are and how you communicate

Understanding who you are and how you communicate

As part of a PSHCE or SEND SOW this lesson(s) can be used to explore the different ways individuals learn, what the best way to learn is for them and also how communication can impact on themselves and others positively and negatively. This is a mini SOW that can take up to 3 lessons depending on your learners. The language and time taken can be adapted to fit the needs of all learners, I currently use this with a SEND group and talk them through the activities. This was originally designed to provide students who were struggling with social, emotional skills to develop self awareness and understanding which in turn would improve their ability to access learning in the classroom.
