These are the templates that I prepared for my higher year 8 Spanish students and early KS4 in relation to answering Speaking questions (Photo card and Role Play as well as Conversation - see Writing Q2/Q4). They include different sets of activities and games to answer the questions of the AQA GCSE exam. The tasks are set for my Foundation tier but might as well work for Higher if mildly redacted. School rules worksheet in Spanish

The aim of the lesson is work out the structure of mandatory phrases like ‘se debe’ and ‘hay que’, and also that they are always followed by the infinitive. The differentiation can come from how the first stage of the worksheet is used. With lower ability groups, I’ve asked them to draw a symbol or sign to show the meaning of the phrase in the large boxes on the first page. With more able students, they can simply translate. If weaker students are to use this exercise, I’ve also picked out some of the key words on the first page, put them on the whiteboard as a starter and got students to look them up in a dictionary so that there is a clear word bank for those students to refer to later.

This is a simple board game designed to practice talking about school objects and what we use them for. . There are two different versions. Version 1: Students name the animal in the square they fall on, e.g. "Es un lápiz. / Es una goma. Version 2: Students make sentences with the name of the animal animal and what it gives us, e.g. “El lápiz se usa para escribir. / La goma se usa para borrar.” There is also a blank versions for the students to fill in with words and/or drawings and create their own personalized board game. INSTRUCTIONS Print on A3 paper or cardboard and laminate. You will need counters and dice. The students take turns to throw the dice and move the counters. On each square they fall, they must construct and say out loud the word that names the picture. If they fall on the goose, they must say the magic formula “De oca a oca y tiro por que me toca”, and then they can advance to the next goose and throw the dice a second time. If they fall on Vuelve a la salida, they must go back to the start. If they fall on Pierdes un turno, they must miss their next turn. The first player to get to* Llegada* wins. The ideal number of players is 2, so print as many copies as you need. If there are more than 4 players, the children will get bored waiting for their turn and they will not have enough speaking practice to make the activity meaningful from the point of view of language learning.

A series of resources to support GCSE students preparing for their GCSE writing exams. The bundle includes three GCSE writing papers at both foundation and higher level, one for each theme of the new course, and a booklet with 24 90-word questions, eight for each theme (two per topic). This booklet has been picked by TES to be part of their GCSE revision hub. Finally, the resource includes a Complex structures guide, with a variety of tenses and structures to encourage the higher ability students to work independently and use increasingly complex language. Finally, the bundle includes a “Correct the mistakes” activity, which includes 54 sentences (covering all topics) with mistakes in them for the students to correct, all based on some of the most common mistakes I keep seeing in students’ work.

POSTER /FLASHCARDS This is a poster to refer to when playing the Me dejas…? game. Print the document one sided, on A3 paper (4 pages sheet) or A4 (2 pages per sheet). Then laminate and use when playing the game or for reference in role-play activities. GAME This is a classic card game of pairs, similar to Go Fish!. It is designed for the students to practice asking for and offering or refusing to borrow any of the school items in Spanish. The goal is to form and discard pairs of cards. Print the document one-sided, laminate and cut out the cards. The ideal number of players is 4 (4 cards for each student), but it will also work with 2 to 8 players. For bigger classes, you might want to print several copies. Instructions: Distribute all the colored cards. Put the black and white cards face down in a pile. Students take turns to take a black and white card. If it matches one of their cards, they say “Tengo …” and put it aside. If they don’t, they ask another child "Me dejas …? If they have it, they say “Si, toma.” and they give it to the child who asked for it. If they don’t have it, they say “Lo siento, no tengo.” The child with the most pairs wins.

This is the second batch of pre-exam speaking revision resources that I created for use with my own year 11s. I wanted to provide them with sample role plays, photos and general conversations so they could physically have the handouts in front of them containing the role play and photo, as well as instructions on the back so they could practice the whole speaking with their partner. The main idea was to facilitate a practice as close to the real thing as possible for my students AND provide them with exemplar answers and key vocab and verbs to help them improve their speaking answers before or after they had practiced with one another. The handouts include the following: FOUNDATION STUDENTS: The themes of the photo, role play and general conversation are: Work (role play) , School (Photo) and Holidays (Part 2, general conversation). HANDOUT 1: Foundation role play and photo for Student A on page 1, with page 2 containing the questions which A will ask their partner B. Clear instructions are there for each part of the speaking exam, together with the unpredicted questions. These will be different from the unpredicted questions which B will have on their handout. HANDOUT 2: Foundation role play and photo for Student B on page 1, with page 2 containing the questions which B will ask their partner A. (alternatively, for low-level students, the teacher can provide students with a vocabulary list and the students label the photo). 2) Change pairs to AB. 3) Student A describes photo while student B listens attentively. 4) Student B describes photo while student A listens attentively. 5) Still without looking at each other’s photos, students attempt to identify 3 differences between their photos. Students may now look at each other’s photos and describe 2-3 differences each.
