The Bible (8/14)

A new scheme of work aimed at KS3 Y7. This unit of work will be a Chronology of Monotheism. Starting with Genesis, moving through Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Each religion will cover Key religious figures, information on their holy book and a rite of passage/religious practice. The aim of this unit is to compliment our GCSE curriculum in which we study Christianity and Islam. The learning journey for the unit is included. The Bible: An introduction to the Bible, looking at the Old and New Testament in a video and gap filler. Students then look at the different ways the Bible can be interpretted- liberal and literal. They consider other sources of authority that may provide more guidance in the modern day (prayer, visiting church, listening to their conscience). Students then pretend to ring into This Morning to answer a phone in question regarding if the Bible is out of date.

Planned for 9-1 New Specification The lesson is intended to be a research and group presentation lesson but I have included the PDF that they would search for, and they could just present using paper and speeches rather than using ICT. Depends on your group and resources that are available. Great lesson to get them to develop presentation skills, but also develops numeracy skills.

AQA Social Stratification- The Welfare State (11/15)

Planned for 9-1 AQA specification. This lesson can take 2 hours (double lesson) if you watch the documentary. Students complete an information sheet on what the Welfare State introduced after the war. They then look at New Right, Centre-Left, Marxist and Feminist perspectives on welfare. There are some extension questions for those who complete this. There is then a documentary about the benefits cap. The idea is to offer this as a possible solution, but for students to think about the implications of this. This documentary is not essential for the course, but it is a nice way for students to think about alternatives to the welfare state, or to consider if the welfare state is a worthwhile investment with taxation.

It interleaves content from Christian Beliefs, Christian Practices, Theme A Relationships & Families and Theme B Religion and Life. This unit will be taught 3 times a fortnight and will provide the first term (Year 9) of a 3 year interleaved GCSE. Aimed at AQA but may be suitable for other exam boards. Lesson 5- A lesson that focuses on Evolution and the Big Bang. There is also input on Scientific Truth VS Religious Truth. Lesson 6- Progress Checkpoint. Low-stakes, open book assessment in which students can use their homework from the knowledge organiser to complete. Could be used as a mid-unit assessment dependent on your assessment structure. New Spec 9-1. Included is the progress checkpoint that we complete every 6 lessons, this may suit your assessment schedule as a mini-mid unit assessment. Students complete this as a low-stake, open book assessment where they can see if their notes are of a good enough quality. The feedback lesson includes a whole-class feedback slide, and both 4 mark questions have a model answer. The students highlight and mark this answer, identifying how it is a good answer. They then attempt a new 4 mark question acting on their feedback.

Please leave a review if you download! I will be creating one for each of the units. I have created a Keythinkers (only) work booklet for students. I am planning to issue this over the Easter Holidays. Students use Cornel note taking strategies to show their understanding of each of the Key texts. There are several exam questions relating to each of the key texts to develop students confidence in using these texts.

Research Methods (9-1) How do Sociologists Research? (1/11)

This is a mini research unit that will be taught ahead of the units (after the introduction unit). It should take approximately 11 lessons to go through the basic research methods. I am aware this is no longer necessary to be taught as an explicit unit, however we feel they need the basic knowledge to be able to answer the questions in the different units. Lesson 1 This looks at how Sociologists conduct their research. Please review if you purchase
