Katie's story

How has your training prepared you for your teaching role?

The training has been fantastic. I’ve been really supported the whole time, from the Teach Beyond team and my in-school mentors too. The training has been really structured: each term focused on a key area, so by the end you’ve got this bank of knowledge to help you. It’s been really good.

How are you feeling now that you’re graduating?

Really, really happy. I can’t believe it’s gone so quickly this year, and I’m just so excited to be moving on to my ECT years.

How are you feeling looking ahead to the new school year?

I’m looking forward to meeting my new class and establishing those routines. I feel ready to put everything I’ve learned into practice, so I’m really looking forward to that.

What aspects of teaching do you think will be most challenging?

It’s definitely going to be busy with new routines, new children, and being new myself, so I’ll be finding my feet. But I feel ready for it, I feel prepared. I think workload will be the biggest challenge, but it’s going to be okay.
