Everything you need to teach year 7 - 10 ratio lessons! All lessons contain: 5 a day starter, learning objectives with progress tick sheet, Fully animated and clear examples, Differentiated, colour-coordinated questions WITH answers, Lesson 1: Introduction into ratio & proportion! How to write and simplify ratios including in terms of 1: Lesson 2: Direct proportion using the unitary method! Simple, clear examples with fun paired work main activity, great for all abilities. I often use it as a class timed activity to see which student can get the most points, works amazingly work quiet, challenging work! Lesson 3: Direct and inverse proportion using unitary method! Clear examples of both proportion with functional questions of mixed direct and inverse questions. Lesson 4: Dividing a given amount into a ratio! Functional questions and examples of diving into ratios with self assessment progress slide to finish. Lesson 5: Direct proportion with constant k! Introduction into the constant k and it’s terminology. Questions include equations and tables. Fun code breaker to end. Lesson 6: Introduction into inverse proportion with constant k. Including equation and table style questions, also with code breaker from tes. Bonus Lesson! I have added in a group work lesson which I have found from tes which is about dividing amounts into a ratio in a bank robbery! These are all my favourite lessons from the ratio topic and I hope you enjoy them too! If you like them or think I could improve them in anyway, please rate or comment! Thanks =]

This is a good resource to help learners link the ratio and proportion concepts in real life situations… It can be given as a homework to help learners reflect on their learning and to reveal any misconceptions they might have. It is good to be used to assess each learner’s understanding of the topic. It can also be used as a main/ plenary activity where learners work on their own or with others (peer assessment)….. It can be adapted at different levels to suit and to challenge learners at all levels.Other topics covered: Numbers

Ratio and Proportion KS2 Bundle!

3 Resources
This stimulating and comprehensive lesson bundle contains a number of engaging and detailed ‘ratio and proportion’ lessons: Ratio and Proportion: Introduction - Students understand the key terms ratio and proportion, and use these mathematical concepts in order to solve number problems involving relative quantities and unequal sharing. Percentage Problems - Students solve a range of problems involving the calculation of percentages, including for measures and comparisons. Similar Shapes - Students use their understanding of ratio and scale factor to solve a number of varied and real-world similar shapes problems. Combined, the lessons enable children to meet and exceed the following curriculum standards: solve problems involving the relative sizes of 2 quantities where missing values can be found by using integer multiplication and division facts; solve problems involving the calculation of percentages and the use of percentages for comparison; solve problems involving similar shapes where the scale factor is known or can be found 4. solve problems involving unequal sharing and grouping using knowledge of fractions and multiples. Each lesson follows a clear step-by-step learning journey, in which children learn through: -Defining, exemplifying, and understanding the key concepts through clear and simple explanations; -Demonstrating their understanding through well-differentiated (Bronze, Silver, and Gold Challenge) application and challenge activities; -Applying their understanding to real-life problems, for example involving recipes; -Gauging their own understanding through both AfL activities and self-reflection tasks. Included in each lesson is: Whole lesson PowerPoints - clear and precise, colourful and comprehensive; Bronze, Silver, and Gold level award worksheets - carefully differentiated and provided in both Word and PDF; Teacher answer sheets; A detailed teacher lesson plan. Student helpsheets (where appropriate) There are also opportunities for group learning, speaking and listening, peer assessment, and whole class discussion. I originally used these resources with Year 6 (and higher-attaining Year 5) classes, however colleagues have used them for between years 4 and 9 with some minor adaptations. Some of the content really does become quite challenging (especially the Gold sheets) and so these resources could easily be used for KS3 children. Ratio and Proportion Harry potter Themed Unit

Four lessons all in one presentation: direct proportion, creating ratio, simplifying ratio and sharing using ratio. Direct proportion With a quick Harry Potter themed starter followed by a few diagnostic questions to see where your students are in terms of Direct proportion, the main task consists of creating Ron's recipe book. They will use direct proportions to work out the amount of ingredient needed to make dishes like Mad Eye Muffins and Voldemort Vindaloo to serve different amounts of people. Creating Ratio A starter based on the previous lesson direct proportion. They will have to create a shopping list for the ingredients to feed the masses at a large Hogwarts banquet. This will then be followed by using different Magical dishes to create ratios of mains to desserts. Then a short game of beat Harry Potter. The class have to work out the ratio of items on the board before Harry catches the Snitch. Simplifying ratio Snape immediately stops the Creating ratio lesson to tell us how we can simplify. An example is given with flying cars and Bertie Botts Beans. Followed by a series of questions and a wand to reveal the answers. Sharing using Ratio We visit Diagon alley in our starter. Differentiated shopping lists are attached to buy the different things from Diagon Alley. They will have to find how much they need to spend. After the starter, Ron will show the class what ratio really means and how to share using ratio by sharing sweets with Harry (of course Harry gets more he is the chosen one). Then followed up with some class questions to check their understanding and again a list of questions and a wand to reveal their answers.

Enhanced Wordsearch for Maths. Theme: Ratio and Proportion

An enhanced wordsearch suitable for key stage 3 or 4. Can be used as a starter or a literacy based activity. Solution provided. Rather than just finding a list of words pupils have some additional tasks to extend the time, complexity and skill set required. Pupils must: Find the 10 keywords all linked to the theme of the wordsearch Locate and correct the misspelled word Find the additional 3 words not in the word list (They aren’t linked to the theme) Identify what links the 3 secret words i.e square, circle and triangle would be names of shapes Similar sheets are available for a vast array of topics. Or why not consider purchasing the master pack which includes all 39 wordsearches…that’s one a week for the whole year! These are an excellent way of helping to develop reading, literacy and scanning skills. As an additional exercise I ask pupils to keep hold of their wordsearch for the lesson and tick off every time they hear one of the keywords used in the lesson.
