My Life - a Timeline

(7)
This is an interactive activity to create a timeline of a child's development. Drag the images representing milestones in a child's development onto the timeline. This is great for helping children make sense of how they learn new skills and develop since birth. It helps them think about the learning process - and realise that it continues over time. This could be a preliminary to asking children to bring in their own photos and make a class timeline. Note: This is a Flash activity and may not work on all devices and browsers. We recommend IE.

This resource helps students to understand chronology and also allows them to tell the story of their life up to starting at secondary school. It works as a nice ice-breaker activity with a new Year 7 class.

PERSONAL TIMELINE BIOGRAPHY These two worksheets are designed to showcase important events of a child´s life through writing and drawing. There are 4 lined spaces for children to describe the events they believe to be important milestones, and then draw them in the four blank squares on the next sheet. This is a double-sided timeline that could be used for a student's life and it helps introduce the concept of timelines.

2 times. A Powerpoint which introduces the idea of personal history. Meet Sammy as he attrributes one item to each year of his life to day. To accompany this is a template (one for 6 yr olds, one for 7 yr olds) which enables them to create their own time line in a simple structured fashion using pictures with the option of adding key words or simple sentences.

The Victorians I have used this with my year 3/4 class and the children really enjoyed it. The top half of the time line is the key events in Queen Victoria's life (not too much information for children so young). The bottom half of the timeline is inventions from the Victorian period (that the children would be really interested in - eg ice cream invented! - or would find quite comical - the first public flushing toilet!).

A very interactive Captain Cook powerpoint which really engaged my class. There is also a powerpoint with key events on which I hid outside and they explored to find them. Once the children found the key events they ordered them and placed onto a timeline. I created this for an observation lesson which got outstanding. Key facts also have more info about Austrlia than the powerpoint to children were learning something new as they were making a timeline.

Pictures of famous scientists in chronological order running from the Ancient Greeks up to modern day 'TV' scientists. Each page has a picture and a description of what the scientist discovered. I have done my best to include scientists from a wide range backgrounds but unfortunately, there's no getting away from the fact that most historical scientists were white males. I also don't teach much biology so most of the scientists are chemists or physicists. Feel to comment back on scientists you think should be included and why and I'll try to update it.

Introduction to Adolf Hitler and The Second World War (Early life timeline of events)

The lesson is the first in The Second World War unit of study. This can be used as a one off lesson to introduce and explore the early life of Adolf Hitler. It is ideal for students who have some knowledge of the treaty of Versailles and can now begin to explore the role of Adolf Hitler and his rise to power during the interwar years 1921-1939. If you are in need of several lessons linked to Adolf Hitler, then this lesson and resources can also be found in my Four lesson World War Two bundle pack, which offers great savings and prep time dramatically reduced. check out the World War Two bundle here For my print-and-go resources and full lessons, please visit my shop here

I split the task into 3 parts: Part 1 - students tried to match the pictures with the periods part 2 - students tried to match them to the dates part 3 - students use the cheat sheet to review their matches and construct a final timeline. I used the extension for my G&T mathematicians. My Kids really enjoyed it. Hope yours do to :-)
