This resource is designed to be used alongside the reading of Wonder by RJ Palacio. You will find 13 different important extracts with a range of key questions from pages 1-100. The questions build in difficulty and complexity - from simple comprehension questions to questions which guide pupils towards a deeper analysis of the text. The questions develop pupils familiarity with subject specific terminology, enable them to uncover layers of meaning and can lead to new/different understandings and inferences. The reading strategies and questioning styles have been incorporated form Doug Lemov's 'Reading Reconsidered.'
Guided reading questions for every Chapter of Wonder by R.J. Palacio.
Questions written in KS2 SATs style. Each question is tagged as V I P E R S to show the skill required (Vocabulary, Inference, Predict, Explain/Evaluate, Retrieval, Summarise). There are 5 or 6 questions per Chapter. Ideal for Year 5 and 6 and as SATs preparation. Could also be used Year 7.

Second part of Wonder resource collection which has been set and used with my low ability year 9 class. The mini reading task is easily adaptable. The independent learning map was set to encourage students independent study for the rest of the text.
This lesson explores how structure is used in the story looking at a particular extract. The lesson covers the structure techniques and effects used in the extract (extract and revision sheet of techniques attached). Students are directed through a pre-analysed section of the extract of how to analyse the use of structure and then given the full extract to do this independently. The end result supports students in answering the GCSE styled question "How does Palacio use structure to influence the reader?"
