I’m the English Coordinator at a small little school and I took on the task last year of developing a guided reading programme for KS2 as I noticed this was missing from the school.
I have included:
-the recording sheet I use (not entirely mine as I found this somewhere and made some changes)
-a sheet of individual pupil questions that they glue into their Reading Response journals after reading a chapter with the teacher (again not entirely mine as I found some questions here and there). It will save lots of paper as I got 8 sets of questions per page.
I am sharing this guided reading resource with you in the hopes that it will save you some bit of time and enhance your guided reading lesson. I know I lose countless hours looking up resources, creating resources and copying resources myself, so if this helps you in any way, then I count that as a small victory for our educating community.
This includes how to make and use a dark box in lessons on light and dark and two worksheets to accompany it. I used this to get year 1 to understand that light is necessary for us to be able to see things. One of the worksheets also extends into how we see colours in dim light.

A Full scheme of work covering writing objectives using various of Roald Dahl's works (including Matilda and The BFG). It is easy to differentiate for KS 2 (7-11 year olds) and KS3 (11-14 year olds)and contains many worksheets for activities including vocabulary and punctuation use as well as descriptive and creative writing techniques.
These ‘Library Challenge’ cards were made for my class library, but they could be used in a school library as well. The idea was just to get the children excited about reading and properly engaged with the books, and they’ve really enjoyed working through the activities – an added bonus being that I use this work to decorate the walls of our library.
There’s a selection of 10 Library Challenge Cards, plus a ‘Library Challenge of the Week’ which just allows for changing things up a little without having to print and laminate more cards.
