Speaking and Listening: Discussion Cards (Lower ability)

These cards are designed to encourage students to have thoughtful discussions.

Ideally, print out enough sets for 1 between 2. These can be laminated and numbered per set to keep them organised. I have hole punched them and attache them together using a treasury tag.

Give students a topic to discuss such as ‘Frankenstein is the real monster in the novel’ Students then deal the cards out, whoever has ‘an original idea’ begins the discussion. The discussion is over when all the cards have been used.

Students should then evaluate the quality of their discussion and explore one or more key points that arose.
