USS BOWFIN: LETTERS HOME #GoogleExpeditions #ELA #SocialStudies #WWII

During this lesson students will explore the conditions of living aboard a WWII submarine and understand some of the sacrifices that sailors made during the long war.

Before going on the Expedition, students will imagine they are family members of Navy servicemen serving on a WWII submarine. They will brainstorm questions they want to ask their loved one about life aboard a submarine and write a letter to them.

During the Expedition students will explore the USS Bowfin and find answers to their questions. With their new understanding of life aboard the sub they will now assume the role of a seaman aboard the Bowfin and write a letter back home to answer the questions of their loved ones.

This lesson utilizes Google Slides, Google Expeditions, Google Drawing, and Google Docs to help students access prior knowledge, brainstorm, explore, research, plan, and publish.
