Viva 2 M4 Daily routine & getting ready to go out Lesson 3

Whole lesson power point presentation and handout on daily routine and ‘getting ready to go out’ expressions using reflexive verbs.

Lesson activities include:

  • Introducing a range of key verb infinitives which will be used in the lesson. Students translate into English.
  • Introducing present tense conjugations for reflexive verbs. Students then conjugate the verb infinitives they came across in the first task in the first person singular (I).
  • Introducing daily routine and ‘getting ready to go out’ expressions with pictures.
  • Slide with daily routine and ‘getting ready to go out’ pictures suitable for pronunciation reinforcement or games (beat the teacher; swat the picture; ‘psychic’ game, etc.)
  • Reading task: Students match the phrases from the previous tasks to the correct pictures.
  • Listening task: Students listen to a teenager talking about how she gets ready to go out. They note down the correct order in which the action is mentioned, according to the picture prompts.
  • Listening task: Students listen to the recording again and find the Spanish equivalents of the English sequencers and frequency expressions listed. The first letter for each word is provided.
  • Speaking task: Working in pairs students practise making as long a sentence as they can by using sequencers to combine phrases using reflexive verbs and daily routine expressions.
  • Reading/listening task: Students listen to a song about getting ready to go out, while following the text in the handout. They put the pictures in the order in which the activities are mentioned. Then they can listen again and sing along.
  • Reading task: Students read two longer texts in which a boy and a girl describe their preparations for going out. They answer multiple-choice questions in English.
  • Reading translation task: Students read Alejandra’s text again and translate it into English.
  • Writing task: Students imagine that they are a celebrity of their choice and produce an extended writing piece on how they get ready to go to a party. Sentence starters with sequencers and frequency expressions are provided.
  • Speaking task: Working in pairs, students present their texts to each other. They do it off by heart if possible.

Suitable for KS2 and KS3 Spanish teachers. The lesson is planned in detail to ensure pace and interaction as well as maximise learning. The answers come up as you click. Based on the Viva 2 Course.
