This can help students have a structured way of learning the meanings 'behind' words, rather than just learning 'labels'. It emphasizes the phonological aspects of words as well. Put into the checklist new and easily confused words to aid understanding and recall at a later stage. Over time, we might encourage students to 'analyse' all new words themselves using some of the prinicples highlighted within this checklist (but not necessarily having to use the actual checklist evertime).
