Fun with butterflies: co-ordinates, symmetry, life-cycle, cloze procedure

Fun with butterflies: co-ordinates, symmetry, life-cycle, cloze procedure

This PowerPoint is based on Spring time and in particular, butterflies. Pupils will use their knowledge of timestables to produce co-ordinates on a grid. If plotted correctly they will produce their own pixelated butterfly. More scientific diagrams show the parts of a butterfly and the life cycle of a butterfly. Pupils are asked how they can add features to the pixelated form to make it more life like. Finally there is a cloze procedure about Spring where pupils are required to put in appropriate adjectives from a list. This resource is intended for revision purposes and will test numeracy, literacy, scientific and artistic skills in a cross curricular approach.Suitable for ages 7+

Poetry bundle

Poetry bundle

I have bundled together six resources which I think will be useful for purposes of poetry analysis at this time of year. The Lulu poem and the messages resources would be particularly apt to study around Mother's Day and will provoke discussion about gender roles. The resources can be used throughout the year equally well, however.

What Am I? Game

What Am I? Game

It's a set of flashcards that can be used for various purposes, but specially for playing the "Guess What I Am" Game. This game is very popular, and by using these flashcards you can adapt the game to the classroom. Instructions: One st picks up a card without looking at it, and then he/she shows the card to the rest of the class. (In the original game, you put the card in a band around your head, so that everybody can see it except you). The students asks the rest of the class questions about the flashcard: Am I an animal? Do I live in the city? Am I an object used in the classroom? Am I blue? Can people eat me? etc. The teacher can decide upon the number of questions the st can ask before risking an answer. If the st guesses, she/he gets a point. You can also play in groups, and instead of giving a limit to the number of questions, you can give a time limit, within which each group can pick up more than one card if the players guessed the 1st card.

Holi Hindu Spring Festival of Colours AssemblyA riot! An explosion of colour! Well, not quite. It's those wretched Health and Safety Regulations spoiling all the fun again. Holi - festival of colours - Festival of love - History - Story - Description + 2 Kid Reading Books

Holi - festival of colours - Festival of love - History - Story - Description + 2 Kid Reading Books

Holi is an Indian Spring Festival which is now celebrated around the world. My presentation comes complete with a story about why this festival is important (you can choose between a long or short version), a description of what happens and lots of colourful pictures of the event. In addition, you are able to read the lives of two Indian children as they get ready for Holi and what they do on the day. These could be printed off and read individually or they could be projected onto the interactive whiteboard and read as a class. The students could then think about how they would like to celebrate the coming of Spring and who knows, perhaps even have their own version of Holi in the classroom!

Rainforest Lesson Plan (Art)

Rainforest Lesson Plan (Art)

Year 3. This resource includes the lesson plan and the relevant accompanying worksheet. It provides the children with the opportunity to “explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form, and function” (DfE, 2014). They have the opportunity explore an artist who paints with the Rainforest as inspiration linking directly with the theme. Using their sketchbooks to develop their ideas and create a final piece is appropriate for KS2 children and contributes to their Art subject objectives (DfE, 2013). The specific activities and resources provide opportunities for the children to develop their skills, thought processes and evaluation abilities, which are valued across the curriculum. This resource is designed to be used alongside the cross-curricular links to both Music and Drama also through the Rainforest theme. Having a theme such as the Rainforest can give children a broad concept to work with so that they have the opportunity to explore the theme in a way that suits their learning style. To get the most from this lesson plan you will need to create the PowerPoint listed in the resources.
