Updated: Peer Assessment. Classwork, exercise book, final product or model

A peer assessment task that allows pupils to assess a peer's classwork, final product or model that they have completed. It also allows peers to set a target for improvement. Objective: Encourage pupils to create a balanced, critical view when evaluating a product. By promoting the evaluation of someone else's work, they are able to look at the product objectively without bias, particularly if the product they evaluate is not that of the person they sit next to. Assessment: It can be used to inform AoL and formally documented by a teacher, or used more readily in session by a teacher who can then recall common targets for improvement, discussing with Q&A how these could be achieved. Prior Knowledge: The criteria of the project, which will have been set by the classroom teacher or discussed in the form of a specification possibly. Expectations: Pupils should begin to create a balanced, structured argument about products in general. They should use their K&U along with their experiences to identify and set appropriate targets for themselves and their peers. Hints: These can be folded, hole punched and, with some string, tied to the product. To save on labour, the kids can do this, and it creates a simple practical element to the evaluation. Another way to do this is to print them, cut them out and glue them together. Laminate them and the pupils can then complete them with water-based markers, which can easily be wiped off. This is more time-consuming, but saves time in the lesson and saves materials in the long run

2017 India AQA Textiles GCSE Design Question Template, mark scheme and vocab

2017 India AQA Textiles GCSE Design Question Template, mark scheme and vocab

This resource consists of the blank design question, a mark scheme for the students to either self assess or peer assess and a vocabulary sheet to help them. I have left the mood board part blank as my students make their own but very easy to copy and paste images or a whole mood board from another author if needed. I used this year in and year out but adapt it to the exam theme.I also draw examples and put them on the board and get the students to mark my design question work as a starter. Usually teach this over 1-2 hours depending on the ability of the class. As stated in my other resources, I have 10 years experience of teaching this course and I have been a moderator for AQA. Good Luck with your classes this year :)

'Rapid Progress' Class Activity by @TeacherToolkit

'Rapid Progress' Class Activity by @TeacherToolkit

This can be modified to suit any subject and topic. I do NOT claim this resource to be a new idea; just a strategy that works very well in the classroom that is worth sharing. This idea is perfect for sharing success criteria; and also demonstrating progress over a number of lessons. The topic can be used as a starter or plenary and feed into a main activity - using the same process - for students applying success criteria for classwork; coursework and exams over and over again. Supported with a blog-post weblink.

Scales of Production - Mass Production Practical Activity

Scales of Production - Mass Production Practical Activity

I use this resource to teach the benefits of mass production in a practical way. Its a fun and engaging way of teaching this topic. Pupils can create hundreds of different car designs using this resource and use the process to compare working as part of a team with trying to complete a task as an individual. Included in this resource are: 1x PowerPoint presentation that pupils can use to create a car. 1x 'Customer' Order forms.1x Blank order form (so you can create your own and expand the task). 1x Puzzle worksheet showing all of the car parts. The task is based around fulfilling orders from customers. I split the class up into two groups. One takes charge of mass production - this group assigns roles and uses the PowerPoint as a team on the interactive whiteboard to create the final car for the customer. Pupils in the second group work independently using the puzzle worksheet to circle all of the parts required to fulfil the customers order. I often time the task and turn it into a race to see who can finish the order fastest or I add in multiple orders from different clients. In any case pupils find that creating cars that match the customers orders is much quicker and easier when using an organised mass production system where each pupil has assigned roles.
