Stating Your Case for the World's Greatest Sportsperson!

Stating Your Case for the World's Greatest Sportsperson!

In this engaging and interactive lesson, students make the case for who they feel is the greatest sportsperson of all time. Within the lesson they develop skills of: persuasive writing, independent researching, personal and social comprehension, and speaking and listening. By the end of the lesson, students write and present their own case for the world's greatest sportsperson, using individually researched subject matter, structural advice, and understanding of persuasive techniques. The learning follows a logical, bitesize journey, in which students: - Discuss and define the key features of what they think makes a sportsperson 'great'; - Research how their own contender meets the features of greatness, using a well-scaffolded research template; - Understand and exemplify each of the persuasive techniques, useful in convincing others of their case; - Critically analyse the language, subject matter, and structure of a model example of a World's Greatest Sportsperson article; - Write, present, and assess their own article. Included is everything that you need to teach, including: - Comprehensive, well-presented whole-lesson PowerPoint (students are led through the learning journey by an animated Usain Bolt character!); - Research template and completed model example; - Persuasive device cards for the card-sorting activity; - Model example of a completed 'World's Greatest Sportsperson' article; - Lesson plan. This would be perfect as a part of an English persuasive writing or speaking and listening unit, a PSHE/Citizenship study of people and their achievements, or a Cross-Curricular activity for less structured learning time. Boat Race Animated Quiz Scoreboard - Quick on the Draw

Boat Race Animated Quiz Scoreboard - Quick on the Draw

ALL SUBJECTS ALL LEVELS Make your revision activities fun and competitive using this boat race themed score board. Give each boat a name if you wish and start the powerpoint. All that remains then is to click on the boats when a team gets a question correct and they gradually move along the screen. Great for revision activities or making answering questions in teams competitive. Screen shot shows the boats playing for house points but you could change this for raffle tickets, stickers, reward points of another kind, sweets - whatever motivates your students! The powerpoint is set up so that you can have 5, 10 or 15 teams but this can easily be edited to have a different number.

Wimbledon Maths Puzzles!

Wimbledon Maths Puzzles!

These short and snappy puzzles are perfect for engaging all of the Wimbledon lovers in your class in a wide range of maths problems! Using real-life statistics from www.wimbledon.com, students approach a number of varied maths topics, whilst also gaining valuable information about their favourite players and the history of the tournament. I have used these resources with a number of KS2 and KS3 classes, and have always found that students find them extremely interesting and informative. Some of the maths topics covered include: statistics, percentages, charts and graphs, data handling, averages, ratios, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, estimation and problem solving, critical thinking, and fractions. Some of the specific tasks involved include: working out the win ratios and percentages of top players, finding out how to reach the All-England Club from different locations, working out the best ticket combinations to buy at the ground, and comparing player performance over different tournaments. There are 30 tasks in total, in which a number of men and women players are focused upon through varied activities. The tasks are also separated by difficulty into 'Beginner','Intermediate', and 'Difficult' tasks (refer to the B, I, or D symbols in the top left of each activity). All images within this resource are licensed for commercial use, and images are cited on the final slide.
