Athletics Lessons Olympics

Athletics Lessons Olympics

This excel document is used to calculate points for a 30 individual and 4 team competition with your athletics lessons. The teacher (you) should split the class based on ability (ability pool on sheet 2) so that teams are fair. Overivew Consists of the leaderboards with automatic calculation depending on the points you award each pupil. Bonus Points need to be added individually by you on this page within the table. Additionally, pupils should be entered under their respective team name. Times & Distances Consists of a pupil overview of times ran and distances thrown or jumped. Pupils should be listed next to their team and whether they are top ability (pool 1) or lower ability (pool 6). Class Points Consists of the points overview which will automaticallybe added into the overview sheet when inputted. Pupils should be entered next to their team and ability pool (exactly the same as sheet 2). But this time, you will use either the ‘English Schools Athletics Association’ (ESSA) points scoring systems or ‘International Amatuer Athletics Foundation’ (IAAF) points scoring system. ESSA Junior Girls Shows a table of the English Schools Athletics Association points scoring times and conditions. ESSA Inter Girls Shows a table of the English Schools Athletics Association points scoring times and conditions. ESSA Junior Boys Shows a table of the English Schools Athletics Association points scoring times and conditions. ESSA Inter Boys Shows a table of the English Schools Athletics Association points scoring times and conditions. Bonus Points Shows some conditions to how pupils can achieve bonus points, and how many should be awarded. Tables are taken from English Schools Athletics Association website for award schemes. School Records Shows my current high schools records that have been set and the year they were set. If they are beaten I would update them and that person would recieve 15 bonus points. X’s mark those records that are unable to be set at my school. Update them for your won school or compete against mine. IAAF International Amatuer Athletics Foundation’ (IAAF) points scoring system. Adapted to suit my current high school (and times I believe pupils should be aiming for) I hope you enjoy this document, if you have any questions, queries or ways to improve it them please get in contact!

Minimal equipment is required, (at most a few balls, hoop & bench) so the setup of your lesson is so simple! › Divide the class equally at the stations and have them work for 45-60 seconds (you can play some loud, energizing music!). Blow your whistle and the students can then record their personal scores before rotating around to the next station (30 second rest period). Depending on your planned time for the lesson, students can go around the circuit twice or even 3 times. Exercises: • ball twists • bicycles • crunches • side scissors • toe reaches • wind-wipers • crab kicks • hand walks • ski hops • star stretches • superman • 1-foot reaches • mountain climbs • plank • side plank • skipping • sprinting • wall sit • box jumps • frog jumps • hoop jumps • pistol squats • side lunges • surf switches • arm circles • bench dips • bunny hops • push ups • punches • wall push offs • airplane lunges • burpees • jumping jacks • knee ups • sumo kicks • squat & push Online video demonstration support You’ll be given access to an instructional video for each activity (private YouTube videos). Play the video stations you’ll be doing for that session, so they’ll be prepared and know what to do when they get going around the circuits in the hall. Fitness testing sheets You can print out the circuit scoring sheets for students to individually record their results/points at each activity. They can then track and compare their results term to term and see how they have improved. Bonus posters As extra content, we’ve put together 6 high-quality posters, 1 for each fitness component, showing the activities. These can be printed A4 or even A3 for you to put up around your classroom or gym area. We know you’ll love these circuit station task cards – If you are a teacher at elementary, middle or even high school, you need these task cards to help keep your students healthy and active, and they’re great anytime of the year. Prime Coaching is always striving to give you more than just the resource itself – You won’t find other fitness cards complete with supporting videos. We aim to provide you with professional sports-coach level resources that are so easy to teach and implement at your school as a teacher.

Cluedo Circuit session

Cluedo Circuit session

This is a great adaptation of the game Cluedo mixed with circuit training. Each station has an exercise differentiated to an easy option and a slightly harder option once the pupils have completed the station they can turn over the sheet to find a letter, a piece of sporting equipment and a room around school they use this information to tick off on their worksheet. The letters can be changed to fit the name of someone famous or even a teacher (on the example worksheet it spells MRS GRIST) these can be changed easily on the powerpoint and on the worksheet to fit any area. From my experience the pupils loved this activity

How SMSC, PSHE & RSE help learners manage what's important in life

How SMSC, PSHE & RSE help learners manage what's important in life

As human beings, what is of value to us strongly influences our priorities, thinking, choices and actions - although currently many of us are unaware of just how powerful these driving forces are. However matters, such as the state and importance of young people’s mental and physical health and our stewardship of the environment, are changing our understanding of how we are constantly being ‘values led’ and altering our behaviour patterns so as to be more in alignment with what is important to us in life . When underlying VALUES are deliberately identified during the discussions and debates about topics, issues and concerns raised in SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development) and fundamental British Values sessions , PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) lessons and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) slots, young citizens begin to appreciate the significance of how values provide standards, principles and signposts that guide decisions and actions. This understanding then enables them to choose and use values to positively impact all aspects of their own day-to-day lives. In doing so, they become progressively better able to gain essential intellectual, emotional and social skills that allow them to flourish, make good choices, maximise their potential and lead fulfilling lives throughout their school careers and on into their adult lives. See ‘How does VALUES LITERACY enhance young people’s LIFE PROFICIENCY?’ -
