Madeline Lesson Plans & Activities Package, Second Grade (CCSS)

Madeline Lesson Plans & Activities Package, Second Grade (CCSS)

This set of lesson plans, resources, and activities is for use with “Madeline” by Ludwig Bemelmans. It can be used for whole group, small group, and independent instruction – which makes these resources a smart choice for literacy centers or Reader’s Workshop. Here's What You'll Get and Why:My goal was to make it easy to teach readers how to think about “Madeline” using a variety of comprehension strategies. That's why I've included page by page lesson plans, guided practice worksheets, and text specific reader's notebook prompts for the following strategies:- Making Connections- Making Inferences- Identifying the Author's Purpose- Visualizing- Understanding Text StructureI also created an Extension Activity for early finishers.Next, I find that vocabulary instruction works best when it's done within the context of books that students are already reading. That's why I've included the following vocabulary resources:- Vocabulary Word List- Flash Cards (match words to pictures and match words to definitions)- Interactive Vocabulary Notebook Cards- Vocabulary Word Games Printable- Personal Vocabulary Word BookmarkI've also included a word study lesson plan and set of activities, because, much like vocabulary, I find that word study works best within context. As a result, I have identified word patterns within trade books and have developed lesson plans and resources based on the word study that can be done with specific books. The lesson plan and set of resources for “Madeline” focuses on Rhyming Words and includes the following:- Lesson Plan- Interactive Activity- Practice Page- Independent Word WorkThis set of resources also includes the following:- Running Record Assessment- Answer Keys - Common Core State Standard Alignment- BONUS: Surprise Sample ResourceI hope that you will enjoy using my resources along with your copy or copies of “Madeline” by Ludwig Bemelmans. If you have any questions about the resources included in this set please email me at AmyMackenzie@BookPagez.com. It will be my pleasure to reply and help you in any way I can.

10 English Vocabulary Building Starter Games

10 English Vocabulary Building Starter Games

A range of games and activities to make students work on their vocabulary. These work fantastically with any group from EAL KS3 to KS5. They can all be done independently, in pairs or in teams and most have a competitive element. I use these as starters in English lessons, but my school used to have a Literacy Form Time every Monday when we would play one of these. Most don't require any printing but can be adapted into a more physical resource if this suits your group. These always make fun and engaging links into creative writing lessons or literacy lessons. My students love them! I even caught some of my year 7s playing the Alphabet Game at lunch! I hope your students enjoy them just as much.

Primary Word Logic: Primary Thinking Skills

Primary Word Logic: Primary Thinking Skills

Exercise thinking skills and build vocabulary! In each of the 24 lessons in this unit, student must first answer a series of random letter-placement clues. If their “logic” is correct, the letters spell a word. Students are then challenged to write an original sentence using the word. The vocabulary featured is at an easy level so that the focus is on thinking more than on word knowledge. Creative illustrations and coloring activities add to the fun of learning.
