Climate Change Crosswords

Climate Change Crosswords

Climate Change Crosswords is a pdf document containing 5 crosswords that focus on the greenhouse effect, global warming, and climate change - and what we can do about it. There isa bonus puzzle about the Amazon Basin - perhaps the most significant region in terms of climate change. There's another crossword on The Might Mi__i__i__i River. (And then some more on Africa, Asia and Europe - for a rainy day.)Climate change is real, it’s here, and it’s getting worse, but there’s hope. That’s the message of these crosswords. Climate change is happening because of global warming which is happening because humans burn too much fossil fuel, cut down way too many trees, use cars instead of bicycles, throw away too much food, and farm too many animals. The glaciers are retreating. The ocean is warming. The polar ice masses are melting. The sea level is rising. More extreme weather events are occuring. And the worst affected are the poorest people because they tend to live near the edges of rivers and the sea. What can we do about it? Each puzzle includes suggestions. Hopefully these crosswords educate students about what is happening to the earth’s climate and its people. Hopefully they’ll learn why it’s happening and how climate change can be stopped, or mitigated. There’s something a little sneaky and tricky about crosswords. Kids feel compelled to finish them. Try them.

Geography Research Lesson in the Library

Geography Research Lesson in the Library

This can be used by Geography teachers and Librarians who wish to teach Year 7 or 8 students how to research a field of Geography using only Library resources. Learning objectives: students learn research skills as well as being exposed to library usage. There are 3 tasks: a warm up task - finding the definitions of key words which involves dictionary work; then the major task is a fact finding mission on a chosen country on geography curriculum topics; and finally an extension task researching a natural or man-made disaster in the chosen country. The librarian can help amend the task according to the resources they have in the library. So the countries listed can be those the library has books on. A useful Y7/8 activity during the first term.

COLD ENVIRONMENTS AQA GCSE: Plants and animals in cold environment [Lesson 3]

COLD ENVIRONMENTS AQA GCSE: Plants and animals in cold environment [Lesson 3]

This lesson is designed for the new AQA GCSE for 3.1.2.4 Cold environments for 'The Living World' unit - as per the specification.Lesson description:- Starter tasks - Recap task to think about learning from previous lesson, designed to help students consider challenges for people and therefore how this could be problematic for animals (and plants).- Clear learning objectives and success criteria are outlined based on the specification.- Main learning tasks: + Each slide has hyperlinked video clips and supporting tasks for the students to complete. There are 4 in total that explore different aspects of the foodchain. N.B: Please be patient with the hyperlink; it will direct you to the BBC website and after a few moments will indicate the video through the dark writing in it's heading. If it plays the wrong one (seems to like going back to first video) simply re-click the darkened clip selected through the hyperlink and it will run successfully. I have found this varies depending on which computer I use, so it may not be an issue at all.+ Slide 7 introduces the biodiversity aspect, with supporting tasks and discussion points linking it all together.- Plenary - Questions with supporting key words and image: What is so special about cold environments? Why do people consider them to be fragile?- Homework - 2 exam style questions, with reference to support materials in a text book resource.
