GCSE Citizenship 9-1 Active Citizenship Campaign Ideas

GCSE Citizenship 9-1 Active Citizenship Campaign Ideas

Not sure how to plan the 15% active citizenship element of the GCSE course? This document will provide you with a variety of campaign ideas and areas for students to research. All ideas are topical and meet the exam boards’ criteria. This document contains exam board specific (AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR) guidance and student checklists to ensure you can arrange opportunities for students to make the most of their campaign. Examples of campaigns in action are also provided. Note: the OCR exam board provides the biggest remit for campaigning. The other two exam boards (AQA and EDEXCEL) are more prescriptive in what campaigns they like to see with a focus on local and national and less on international reach. If in doubt, always contact the exam board. Good luck! Like us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter

Register Recaps - Lesson Starter Activities

Register Recaps - Lesson Starter Activities

5 Great lesson starter activities that can be adapted for ANY subject or curriculum. Activities are fun and focus on pupil choice for theory and literacy recap! Download the PowerPoint to use or adapt to suit your subject area. Brightly coloured with a simple layout: Knowledge Wheel: Students have to get from A-B by answering the questions correctly. However, if they want to get the most points, the must take the long route around, answering the more difficult coloured questions. This method gives students a choice and is differentiated for different levels of ability. Target Practice: Using 3 darts, students must select 3 questions to answer to try to get the most points. Question difficulty varies based on the number of points each colour is worth. Again, this method gives students a choice and is differentiated for different levels of ability. Keyword Scrabble: Students must figure out each of the keywords by answering the clues and matching the letters to the total number of points. This activity is a great way to check student understanding and correct spellings. Connect 4 Analysis: Students must connect 4 in a row, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. At the top of each column there is a product analysis heading. Student can only connect 4 if they correctly analyse the product based on the heading. For example: Analysis the function of the torch, iPhone, fidget spinner and washing machine. Analysing the aesthetics of the watch, consumer of the baby toy, function of the fidget spinner and material of the Xbox pad. The gives students a choice from a range of analysis categories. Vocab Snap: Students have 2 minutes to match the vocabulary word to its definition. Using a mini whiteboard they can write, 5E…1C etc. This is a great way of embedding keywords and literacy easily.

ScratchUp! A cunning combination of Sketchup (3D CAD) and Scratch (Coding)

ScratchUp! A cunning combination of Sketchup (3D CAD) and Scratch (Coding)

This is ScratchUp! A cunning combination of Sketchup (3D CAD) and Scratch (Coding) to bring your pupils’ programming projects to life! The idea for this emerged after teaching my classes Sketchup as a specific CAD tool within the DT curriculum to design lunar buggies, before then proceeding to the build stage. I was so impressed at their grasp of the software and 3D design as a concept, that I wanted to set a new challenge. Similarly, they had progressed extremely well in my computing lessons until they were quite proficient using coding constructs and concepts within Scratch, so what was the next step? I noticed that their sprite and background design within Scratch always fell short of their best, probably as they were so keen to code and get their project working. It was all coloured blobs and stick men; purely functional, but little in the way of inspiring graphical user interfaces! Enter: Sketchup. I decided that they could use their design skills to create high quality sprites, then export them as a 2D graphic to be loaded into Scratch as a costume. And then it hit me. Why not export a series of rotations of a 3D sprite, load multiple images into a sprite’s costume, then animate it, so it appears as a rotating 3D sprite? The possibilities are endless! Take a look around this resource which includes my presentation from the CAS (Computing at School) National Conference 2018, the list of angles I used for my car direction, my ScratchUp examples, pupil Sketchup and ScratchUp examples and a Sketchup help sheet. Let me know how you get on!!! www.rundontwalk.co.uk

Creative drawing task and Inspirations

Creative drawing task and Inspirations

This is an activity i do with my students to get them thinking about wild ideas and not have to be perfect all the time. Each student will get 3 stacks of paper. Each stack has a noun, adjective and verb. (a list is provided in the power point, you can print and cut them out). They will read the descriptions and draw the first thing that come to their mind. A lot of fun and can get loud! The presentation continues to talk about inspirations and what the inspiration was for famous designs (another game). Another drawing task which gets the students to morph two random items together.

Football World Cup medal design

Football World Cup medal design

With the Football World Cup 2018 having just started, the children will enjoy designing their very only medal. This simple project will give the children the opportunity to act out some footballing poses and try to draw each other in those poses as stick figures. They will then work out how big they need to make the drawings and improve the quality of their sketching. Having chosen their favourite design, they can then develop the stick figure into a final idea and then add colour to it. If you are able, you can prepare some cardboard blanks to stick the medal onto and then add some ribbon, or you could just leave it as a design activity. I find it useful to bring some footballs in to help with the role play, a selection of medals to look at and draw stick figures on the board emphasizing the joints by adding a little dot where they are.
